*WISE* Advice from an International (very) low income Senior

Hey hey hey, I got inspired to post this from this bad boy post https://www.reddit.com/ApplyingToCollege/comments/ldgo94/ayo_some_wise_advice_from_a_senio
So now that I am done with my applying to college journey I feel like I can take an AP test on College apps and get a 5.
Disclaimer:
I am a low income intl' from an underrepresented country, so most of this info is tiny details that matter to these specific students. Also, some of the info may apply to First Gen / Low Income Domestic students so I'll let you know when it does. Now, let's start!

  1. APPLY EA DANG IT: EA is an incredible opportunity so y'all should go for it. These schools care for students that apply EA even though they say they don't. Applying EA NEVER EVER hurts (unless you procrastinated too much, so that's your fault not EA's) Some of the great schools that give money to Intl' students and have EA are (MIT, UChicago, Colorado College, Reed College, Babson...) There must be more that I missed.
  2. Apply ED DANG IT: This sounds like the EA advice but ED is much more serious topic. You need to be sure of what you want. Why did I mention this as an advice? Well, here's why. You might be tempted to apply to Harvard, Stanford, Yale or whatever Elite college that has REA but most of the time it is a bad idea. Applying REA means that you can't apply EA to several schools. So you are bound to use your early advantage on these big names (who honestly don't care much if you apply REA or RD unless you row or have legacy). So even though it is tempting to aim big, remember that you're low income international student and that a 50% acceptance rate is a reach for you. So be realistic and find the one school that has ED that you would LOVE to go to. It can be a T20 or a T50, you just gotta love it and remember to apply EA. If you think that you'd really love to go to school A (25% acceptance rate) but your dream school is school B (7%), in my opinion is that the smarter choice would be applying ED to school A. T20s aren't everything. T40s ARE AWESOME TOO!
  3. SAFETIES don't exist for Low income international students. The closest thing to a safety that I was able to apply to is Albion College, a small LAC that has a 69% acceptance rate. I was able to get their highest merit scholarship, a 55% of full cost of attendance and then, had to apply for aid so that they could stack more money on the top. So the Higher the acceptance rate, the Lower the aid. Now yes, you do get to an equilibrium point where you have the perfect balance between "safety" and aid and I guess an example of that is Berea College, but remember, SAFETIES AREN'T A THING FOR LOW INCOME INTL'.
  4. Fee waivers!!! Get Fee waivers! If you're in one of those International schools where you can get an SAT fee waiver, by all means, DO IT! It not only waives the SAT, but also the score sends and the CSS profile. (I for example was limited to apply to schools that accepted self reporting). Now if you don't, email the school for a CSS fee waiver!! Don't pay for a service that is supposed to provide you money—I think that's common sense. Get the Common App fee waiver, as it pays for 20 colleges.
  5. If you come across any red flags while researching schools for financial aid, just don't apply, it ain't worth it. (I for example applied for Tulane even though the average aid is very low for internationals and they said that "I could still compete". BS! My rejection was because of money! They wanted me to be able to pay 50K a year as a minimum.
  6. Here's a link to a Google sheet that has a list of most colleges in the US with stats on their aid policies. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EKRq8ZSvng2JJfM0LOuog3a6EBNjqAbj21a4l51mtg4/edit#gid=0
  7. INTERVIEWS: If you're like me and most likely applying to many 45%-15% acceptance rate colleges, ask for interviews! It's easy write "insert college name admissions interviews" on google and the first link that appears is gonna be a page where you can register for an interview if the school provides that. Interviews are not the most important thing out there, but if you're already shot in the leg before the race, you kind of what to everything you can to win the race. We'll forever be disadvantaged as Low income international students (and that's very logical) so we do everything to increase the chances.
  8. If you think the AO doesn't know your case as an intl' student, write it in the additional info section on the common app. That section is for you to explain stuff!
  9. Prospective recruited athletes: Make sure to contact the coaches of the schools you're aiming for very early. September type early. And apply ED (maybe REA) to the college that has the perfect balance between "your love for the college" and "the coach's demonstrated interest".
  10. APPEALS EXIST AND ARE VERY VALID!!! If you are 6K shy of what you need -- Appeal. If they gave you a loan of less than 2K --Appeal and tell them that there is no way you can take it. If you can't pay your deposit because of money or logistical issues --- Ask them to waive it. All of these are your rights, so don't shy away.
  11. ED2 is important too! I know a lot of people who got in ED2 but were either rejected or deferred through ED1 so keep that as an option!
  12. The Duolingo English test is an awesome opportunity for those who don't have much money to spend on a whooopping 200$ for TOEFL. It is 40 bucks and some colleges even give you a fee waiver to take it!! (Pssst Colorado college)
  13. Now this is very specific to students who are low income internationals but live in a very small country that is underrepresented. Yes, you kind of are a Gem for colleges, but you come at a high price! Would you buy two Maseratis if you had $500K or would you opt for a Maserati and a Lamborghini? Same goes for colleges. They really want the kid with high academics from Laos, but once they got it, they won't look for more that year (especially if he /she/they cost them a full ride scholarship. So my point here is, if you're from a small underrepresented country and you're looking for full tuition/full ride, you shouldn't apply RD for schools where somebody else in your country got in through ED. For example, someone got in Bowdoin ED with a full ride from Kyrgyzstan. I am an applicant from Kyrgyzstan applying to Bowdoin RD and looking for full tuition, that same year. I shouldn't bother applying. My chances of getting in there are lower than for any other Uni. Of course, if you really think you should apply, that's on you. You think you are very different and the college will notice that, I guess you can go ahead and do it. Also this doesn't apply to medium-large sized countries of course.
  14. Some more advice that apply to everyone is listed in u/SnooLemons5080's post that I linked above.

Now thanks for your attention if you actually read the whole thing, and I hope you are ready for college apps season lmao. Keep a positive mindset, but also be realistic. Balance is key, and that is how I was able to get accepted in an AWESOME university now.
I’m 100% forgetting some random important things so I’ll comment them later, but if anyone has any advice they want to add, comment it.

Into the next life

Into the next life
Prologue
“Okay mom. I’ll call you when I get to my friends house.” I call out to my overprotective mom
“Okay sweetie. Have fun.”
jeez. even though I’m almost twenty she is still treating me like a child. think to myself as I start to walk through the walk way to get to the street.
I look up at the new York skyscrapers around me as I get out onto the street. I feel a slight smile come across my face.
The sound of squealing tires brings me out of my thoughts. I look down to see a mustang drifting around the corner of my street. The car was going way too fast for the turn so it jumps up onto the curb in front of me. I didn’t have time to react before it hit me going almost 30 miles an hour. I didn’t feel anything as the force of the impact sent me flying, I could feel myself in the air for multiple seconds before I come down.
“AAAGGGHHH!” I yell as I land.
I try to get up but it hurts so bad. I look down at my chest and there sticking out with one of my organs hanging on it was a metal fence top. The pain was unbearable but I still managed to pry myself off the fence which rips out some more of my insides.
And of course I was killed by the crowd killer itself. Ironic.
I hear some more squealing and when I look up the mustang was driving away as fast as it could.
Shit, Shit, Shit! Okay I need to get home so I can get help.
I start to limb towards my house while just trying to keep my insides on the inside. I swing open the door and my mom started to walk into the hallway.
“Oh, did you forget some- AAAAHHHHHH!” she yells after seeing my large intestine hanging like a rope.
“MOM CALL A FUCKING AMBULANCE!”
“OKAY!” She yells back as she bolts for her phone.
I feel the urge to cough suddenly. I cough and blood starts running out my mouth. Shit not good
I walk to the living room where my mom was on the phone frantically talking to 911.
“Well. I guess this is my last play.” I say to her.
She turns as I collapse to the floor. The last thing I heard was her scream and start to run to me before everything went dark.

Chapter one
I met god today
I slowly open my eyes. but instead of seeing my mom in front of me is an old bearded man. I look around us and I suddenly realize that we’re floating in clouds.
“It's okay boy. You have my pity. So I will be sending you to a different world.” The old guy says with a gentle voice that sounds a lot like my grandpa.
“Where am I and why are you taking pity on me?”
“You are in heaven my boy. and I’m partly responsible for your death.”
“Wait how are you responsible for my death?”
“Well the driver that hit you was delivering my grub-hub. So that is how.”
“Well okay. But what is this world you're sending me to?”
“It is a medieval world. It’s similar to those anime's you watch.”
“Well that's all fine and dandy but what about my mom?”
She will be fine. now. Since it's my fault you died I will let you bring any item of your choosing.”
“Anything? Well will I be able to add stuff to it to make it more usable for this world. Not like attachments but like magical effects?”
“I will allow it, yes.”
“Okay I know Its a stretch but do you think you could give me a 1970’s M-16?”
“Anything is allowed. now what effects would you like it to have?”
“Okay. I need to never have to clean it and the magazine has to have unlimited bullets. Also Since people will try to take it I need a way to call it back to me no matter where it is.”
“If that is what you want. Here you go.”
A M-16 materializes on the table in front of us. I pick the rifle up to inspect it. The triangle grip looked almost new and the carry handle had no scratches on it. A sling was hanging from it so I sling it over my shoulder.
“I will also make it so you are an expert at that weapon. And I will also make it since this world doesn't have much sanitary capability. I give you the ability to make soap and you will always smell like you just got out of the shower even after crawling through dirt.”
“And now that you have what you need. You shall be released into this new world!” He bellows as my vision goes white.
...
I open my eyes slowly as my eyes adjust to the sun coming through gaps in the leaves from the tree over me. I raise up and I realize that I’m laying under a oak tree surrounded by a vast field. I look to my side and laying in the grass is my rifle. I grab it then I stand up to look at my surroundings. About one hundred feet away from me is a dirt road with two signs pointing in different directions.
After a minute of walking I’m close enough to the signs and to my shock they are in English. The one facing left says ‘alivan’ while the one pointing left says ‘long reach’. I decide to go left. As I walk I look around at the scenery that looks like it's out of a video game. There are tall snow covered mountains and the tops spiral and make bridges connecting each other. There are also fields spreading miles that are filled with beautiful flowers.
“I should probably sell the clothes I’m wearing so I can buy something that fits in more.” I say as I look down at my hoodie and jeans.
...
The walk to Alivan took almost an hour for me to get there. The buildings look like something from a anime. The streets were stone and filled with people in all kinds of RPG style cloth you would see a NPC wear. I enter the main gates and I pause for a second to collect my thoughts then I’m back to walking while looking for a clothes store. To my luck there was one only five minutes away from the gates. I walk in and a bell chimes as I enter the door.
A shorter man in a red tuxedo runs up to me after I enter. “Good day my good fellow! What may I interest you in today?”
“Oh I want to trade the clothes I have on for something else.”
“I have never seen such clothes. They should fetch a high price. Over here are some clothes that may interest you.”
I look at the clothes and I pick a black shirt, A leather trench coat that goes down to my knees. But I keep my jeans and steel toe boots. The man hands me five silver coins and I walk out the door.
The trench coat sways in the wind and it also hides a portion of the rifle under it. I walk around the town just looking at everything. I start to pass an alleyway and I hear a woman say something that sounds as if she is distressed so I stop and look down the alley and I see a man pinning a girl against the wall.
“No stop. I don’t want to do this.” She says quietly to the man.
After hearing this I start to walk down the alley towards them
“Excuse me ma’am but do you know this gentlemen?” I ask calmly and politely.
“Yeah I know her.” the man says to me.
“I wasn’t fucking talking to you. I was talking to her.”
“no I don-” She starts to say but he claps his hand over her mouth.
“Oh don’t be silly we go way back!” He says to her loudly but I could see him whisper something to her and she slightly jumps after.
“Look I’m going to give you five seconds to get off of her before you lose part of a leg.” I say while pulling out the M-16.
After seeing the rifle he laughs. “How are you going to cut my leg off with that! It's not even sharp!” He says between fits of laughter.
“Ma’am I’ll count to three and when I get to three there will be a loud boom. And I need you to run to me after. Okay?” After I say this she nods to me because the guy was still covering her mouth.
“One, two, three!” I yell and after a millisecond after I get to three I pull the trigger and I shoot him directly in his shin.
She covers her ears then runs behind me and latches onto my shoulder like a scared child hiding behind her big brother. The guy looks down at his leg which was blown off from just below his knee. He screams and falls to the ground as blood starts to pool under him.
“Are you okay?” I ask her after he falls.
“Yes.”
“Well we better heal him so I don’t get arrested. Do you know any healing magic?” I ask in a soothing way.
“Just enough to stop the bleeding.”
“Okay. can you please go do that for me?”
She nods and starts to walk towards the screaming guy. I look at her and then I realize that she has fox ears and a fox tail. which are the same shade of jet black as her hair. She bends down to start healing him and I start looking at her more closely. My pervert weeb brain first looked down at her thighs which were in the kind you would see on a Onee-San drawing. Then of course I was drawn upwards to her chest which was big but not unnatural.
She is really cute as well. Now I see why she was in this situation. I think to myself.
The magic circle from her hand folded in on itself as she deactivated the spell.
“Okay now get the fuck outa here.” I say to him.
“But what about my leg?” He asked with a tear rolling down his face.
“That's your punishment for trying to rape her and also girls can now just out run you.”
“okay.” He says sadly as he hops his way out of the alley to where a crowd of people was gathering after the gunshot.
I look at the girl who looked embarrassed. “What's wrong?” I ask.
“It’s just that a random stranger had to help me.” As she says this her ears start to droop like a sad dog
“Hey how about this. I need someone to help me figure out where everything is and I’ll protect you.” I say trying to stay calm.
Holy fuck I’ve never been so smooth in my entire life.
“You would really want a person like me to join your party?” She asks me. and I could see her tail start to wag a bit.
“Why wouldn’t I? I mean you can heal and most likely do other types of offensive magic.”
“Well it’s because us demi-humans are looked down upon by humans because we have animal characteristics.”
“That's stupid. So let's just prove to everyone that demi-humans are useful in their own way.”
“Well if it’s really okay with you let's head to the guild center.” She says sweetly.
“Well lead the way.” I say and as she passes I could see her tail wagging.
She must be really happy about this.
When we get out of the alley and back into the sun filled streets she looks at the rifle which I was carrying at the ready. “Hey what is that thing you used to cut off his leg?”
“Oh this is my M-16. It’s not magic It just uses a controlled explosion to shoot a piece of metal faster than sound.” I explain as I pull the mag out and pushing a single round out to hand to her.
“This is a weird weapon.” She says while looking at the brass casing and my rifle.
“Right I never got your name!” I say suddenly which makes her jump a bit.
“Oh It’s aurora. And yours?” She shoots back.
“Just call me red.”
“Why can’t I know your real name?” She asks puzzled
“I’m not from this land so I want to start again with a new name.” I say thinking of a quick excuse.
“Oh I see. And we’re here.” she says as she stops in front of a big set of double doors.
She walks inside and I follow after her. When I get inside I’m greeted by almost exactly what I expected. A bunch of rowdy adventures getting shitface drunk after a quest and others going to the quest board.
Aurora walks up to a big desk and when I walk up next to her she looks at me and I get the hint.
“I would like to start a party with her.” I ask the woman at the front desk.
She glances at us then gives me a disappointed look and I could tell she didn’t like us being together in a party but Aurora was too invested into the song she was humming to notice.
“Okay come with me and we’ll see your level which will decide what rank you are.” She says in a monotone voice as she opens a door to another room beside her desk.
We walk inside the sun lit room. Inside was another girl sitting at a desk while pulling out two papers with magic circles on them.
“Just draw blood from your finger with this knife then put your finger on the paper and then trace the outside edge with your finger.” She says with a much more bubbly voice which makes me wonder why she isn’t at the front desk.
Aurora goes first and she does it gracefully like she has done it before. After she finishes I step up and cut my finger with the knife. I put my finger down as the blood starts to come up. After I finish tracing the circle the woman takes the pieces of paper and puts them together making sure the blood mixed together.
“Okay now that you are officially a party step over to this mirror here and touch it. that will give us your magic level.” She says.
I let Aurora go first and when she touches it the mirror starts emitting a green light.
“Okay you are a silver rank adventure miss.” She says while pointing to a chart saying which color translates to your rank. And silver was the third from the top and the ones above it where gold then platinum.
I step up to the mirror and after a breath I reach out and touch the mirror and the room is suddenly pitch black for five seconds then it goes back to being bright when the mirror shatters around my hand.
“Oh my fucking god! I thought that that was only a myth!” She says frantically.
“what?” I ask her, confused.
“A mirror that sucks up all light means you have the power on par with a low ranking god!” She says amazed.
She reaches into her desk and pulls out a silver badge and hands it to Aurora, then reaches black in and pulls out a matte black badge with a glowing blue magic circle on it. I clip it onto my neck and Aurora does the same.
Chapter two
I’m a god killer?
After the fiasco that happened with the mirror we head to the main lobby. We don’t stop to talk to anyone, we just make a b line for the guest board. As I walk I can feel the stares and whispers from the other adventures as I pass them, most of which was along the lines of ‘why is a person that is that high of a level with a demi-human?’ But I don’t care about what they think.
“Hey red, this guest looks interesting.” Aurora says while holding out a piece of paper.
I look at it and it is asking for help escorting a nobels daughter to the capital which is named ‘valikary’ which to them means ‘Overwhelming power’
“It’s asking for platinum only though.” I say as I hand her the paper.
“Well we could probably get them to let me come with you just because of your level, mister god killer.” She says with a chuckle.
“Well if it doesn’t work you’re shit out of luck.”
“Yeah, yeah I know.”
“Okay, it's your funeral.” I say as I turn to start to walk to the quest desk.
“What does that even mean?” I hear her ask from behind me.
I get to the desk and after waiting for Aurora to stand next to me so the lady at the desk can see our badges I hand her the guest paper. She doesn’t even say anything about how Aurora is a silver, she just makes us fill it out and we’re on our way.
“Have you ever been to the capital Aurora?” I ask as we make our way through the crowded streets
“No but I have seen it from the side of a mountain that overlooked it.”
“Do we know anything about the kid?”
“Other than they are a nobles daughter, no.”
“Fuck! They should really give us more details.” I say as I rub my face.
“That's one of the things that always annoyed me with the adventurers guild.”
“Have you been in a party before?”
“Once but they were all killed in a quest I told them was too dangerous but they didn’t listen. I stayed back at the guild while they went out to do it. We found they’re bodies on the side of a road a week later.”
“Seems people around here really don’t trust you huh?” I ask as the carriage comes into view.
“They really don’t.” She says as she stretches while walking.
When we get closer to the carriage I realize why they want a platinum to help. It's because this thing had so much gold on it that it could get some countries out of debt.
“Oh you guys are here! Do whatever you need to do before we head out.” One of the knights guarding the things says to us.
“Wait not you. you're a demi and you're not a platinum!” He says as he raises his spear to her to not let her follow me any closer.
Without saying a word I pull out my rifle, raise it in the air, and let a 6 round burst rip open the sky. “I suggest you let her through, dick-weed.” I say as I turn and show him my badge.
“What can that even do other than make a loud noise?” He says with a chuckle.
“I cut someone's leg off with this earlier. so if you want to keep your limbs I suggest you do it.”
In defeat he lowers his spear and Aurora walks next to me. “So now how do we protect this thing?” She asks.
“Do you see how on the top there is a small amount of cover? Well that should give us cover from arrows and it gives us height so we can more easily spot bandits before they are in range to attack.”
“So basically we just sit on top and look around?”
“You will have the ability to stay on top with me or change to being in the cab. That wood handle should give you the ability to do it.”
“Why would you want a demi like me to be in there with a nobles daughter?”
“Because to me you're just a human but with some different ears.” I see her get flustered after I say this.
“Thank you for not being like the others.” She says sweetly. her ears were drooping down to cover her face but I could see her blush like a cherry.
“Okay. It’s time to go.” I say to the driver as I climb past him.
“What are you doing?” He asks as he waits for everyone to get on.
“Protecting your guy’s asses. That's what.”
“Grab my hand.” I say to Aurora so she gets up the side.
She grabs my hand and I pull her up to the roof.
“Really nice view from here.” She says sarcastically.
“Oh fuck off. It gives us enough elevation to see people own there.”
“Now what is it you needed me up here for red?”
“I need someone to talk to and to heal me if I get shot.” I say as the carriage jerks forward.
“Hopefully nothing like that happens.” She says with a fair off look.
...
The first day passed without incident. We made camp just off the road. And after a few hours of tossing and turning I fell asleep under the stars for the first time in my life.
...
The next morning I wake up with the feeling of it being hard to breath.
Is this an attack from bandits?
I pull away and the feeling is gone almost instantly. I open my eyes and right where my head used to be was Aurora's tail.
Fuck I’m a idiot. Well I should probably get used to it since we’re in a party now.
I sit up from my beg on top of the carriage to look around while also trying to not wake up Aurora. I look at the campfire which had traces of blood from the deer I shot the night before and the knights who were all laying next to the fire. One guy even dug a ditch under him and then put rocks over that so the fire's heat would carry over and warm the ground. The soft sigh of the knight standing guard made me flinch. I lean over the side of the carriage where he was standing and I tap his helmet three times
“You can go to sleep. I’ll watch.” I say and he gives me a nod then goes back to his place by the still burning fire.
I survey the area and as I look around I notice how peaceful it is in this world. “Damn. It reminds me of Tennessee and the lake. Oh I will most likely miss that.” I whisper to myself.
As the morning drags on Aurora wakes up for a total of five minutes before going back to bed. And the sound of the knights putting on their armor behind me signals that we are about to leave so I gently shake Aurora awake.
“What da is it?” She asks still mostly asleep
“Hell if I know what day it is. But wake up we’re heading out soon.”
She sits up and reaches into a small pouch on her hip that I didn’t even notice because of her tail. She pulls out a liquid and takes a long swig from the bottle.
“What was that?” I ask.
“Oh it was just some coffee. Want some?”
“Nah I don’t really drink coffee.”
“You're missing out.” She says quietly as she puts it back in the pouch.
She reaches in again and pulls out a small hairbrush.
“Do you need to brush your tail as well?” I ask genuinely
“Oh of course we do. We’re not animals after all.” She says as she runs the brush through her long black hair.
“Isn’t it difficult to brush your tail?” I ask as her tail slowly moves from side to side.
“No not at all. We can move them around quite easily actually. But the base can be annoying at times.” As she speaks she wraps her tail around to her front where she could hug it like a big fluffy pillow.
“Oh that's actually really interesting.” I say as the carriage lurches over a big rock as it starts to move.
Then the wind of the forest sweeps through our hair as gentle as it could be. It was peaceful but I still had a job to do. So I start to look out into the forest which resembles something you would see in a art piece. But the peace was broken when an arrow comes into view. Thankfully the arrow wasn’t moving too fast but it could still kill, the arrow starts to head directly at Aurora’s face.
“Shit get down!” I yell to her but she doesn’t duck.
The arrow was now about fifteen feet away from us but it suddenly stops. Everything stops.
“My boy. This is your freeze time ability. It shall activate at your will.” God's voice says to me.
“So I just need to think of a way to fix it huh?”
“Remember you aren’t frozen but everything else is.”
“Okay. Thanks bro.” I say to him but his voice never comes back.
So I just need to think of the best solution. Got it.
I raise the rifle and aim at the arrow which was suspended in air. I fire a shot and the bullet comes out and is about to make contact with the arrow but it freezes as well.
After shooting the arrow I think of ways to unfreeze.
“Unfreeze.” I say and the sound of the bullet hitting the arrow, horses and Aurora’s realization of what just happen all flood in at once
“Speed the hell up! We’re under attack.” I yell to the driver and he whips the horses and we go from easy trot to full gallop in seconds. But I feel the carriage start to shake violently before slamming down on its axle. The force of the impact snaps the bar holding the horses on and when lose they run at full speed away from the combat. Me and Aurora are almost thrown from the top but the decorative roof stops us from falling off.
“Shit. Everyone okay?” I call out and I can hear them all say yes or just say something else.
Then shit went from bad to worse when a large group of people emerge from the woods around us. They were all wearing animal skins as clothes or some other fabric type thing.
“Stay here.” I whisper to Aurora before standing up and jumping off the top.
“What is it you fine people need?” I ask while trying to stay calm.
“We want the princess inside the carriage. She can fetch a high ransom.” One of the bigger guys say.
“Well I’m sorry to inform you but I’m trying to protect her and I can’t exactly get paid if you kidnap her.”
“Well that's fine because you’ll be dead anyway.
“I think you have the roles switched here friend.”
“What the fuck do you mean? Oh you really think you can kill all of us! You're just a scrawny brat! HAHAHAHAHHHAA!” He bellows and everyone starts to laugh with him.
I switch the rifle to full auto and I pull the trigger while sweeping his legs. He screams in pain and falls down backwards. The tendons in his were hanging out like noodles covered in cherry red sauce. I walk over to where he was laying and I push the barrel to his head.
“Let me tell you how this is going to go. If anyone tries anything you get the same thing he did understand?” After I say this I lift my boot then I slam it down on his head repeatedly. I raised my boot off his head and his head was caved in. His brain was oozing out of the holes in his skull.
“Holy shit! He’s more brutal than us!” One says as he starts to raise his hands in defeat.
“Are you a fucking idiot? There's only one of him and twenty of us.” another guy says to him.
I look at Aurora who was still up on the top of the carriage. “I need you to use transmute to build a wall around us.”
She nods and a few seconds later the dirt raises around us and makes a nine foot wall around us.
“Now you can’t escape.” I say with a wicked smile coming across my face.
They start to charge me but the 5.56 bullets rip through them like a knife through butter. The screams of pain that come from them start then stop abruptly as a bullet goes through their lungs and head. I walk over all the bodies and I put one more bullet in each man's head.
“Okay you can take it down now Aurora.” I say when everyone stops breathing
As the walls fall the dirt covers the bodies and bullet casings.
“Damn. you are brutal.” When she sees the bodies before the sand covers them.
“Only doing my job.” I reply as I walk to the carriage.
I open the door and inside is an eighteen year old looking girl with a small crown on top of long red hair. She was covering her ears while huddled in a corner. “Princess we’re leaving.” I say to her.
“What about the carriage?” She asks when she realizes I’m not trying to kill her.
“Currently we are up shit creek without a paddle so we have to go on foot.”
“Okay. Also I have a name other than princess.” She says as she steps out of the carriage and onto the dirt road.
Chapter three
king's orders
The castle was built on top of a large mountain. The tallest point had to have been 600 feet in the air. There were multiple towers coming up about 400 feet up but I could tell that the king was probably on the tallest point. The quartz it was made of was surprisingly clean.
“Holy fuck that things huge.” I say surprised.
“You only see the front of it. The mountain spirals like the rest of them so there are buildings that are hanging over the ocean.” Aurora says nonchalantly.
“Wait a damn minute. how are there buildings hanging off it?”
“We live in a world of magic dipshit.” She says with a smug look.
“Har Har, very funny Aurora.” I shot back.
“Okay if you two are done can we please just go see my dad?” Princess whose name was Memphis.
“Oh can we not have a little fun Memphis?” Aurora asks her with a smile.
“Let's just get there.” She says with a small whine in her voice
...
After what felt like hours of climbing we get to the biggest doors I’ve ever seen. These things are at least twenty feet tall and 16 across with lots of carvings in them. The doors open with a loud creak as two knights open the door. The inside was your stereotypical throne room, it was long with only natural light coming in and a big throne on the very end of the room. Sitting atop his throne of gold was a man that looked to be in his forties but had the muscle mass of a bodybuilder. Next to his throne was a smaller throne that looked to be for his wife and a smaller one to his other side for his daughter.
“Dad! I’m back and I brought someone who could help us!” Memphis yells to the king in the big room
“Oh Jesus fucking Christ help me.” He mutters to himself “Dear! I’m so glad to see your safe return!” He says but in a louder more cheerful voice.
This guy is going to be a needle in my ass, I can already tell. I think to myself and I know Aurora is guessing it as well because her ears start drooping sadly.
“Now who is it that you think can help us?” He asks as she sits down on her throne next to him.
“It’s those two over there dad!” She says while pointing to us.
I can see the king scowl at Aurora which royally pisses me off.
“Adventures. I thank you for bringing my daughter home safely. Now you must have your reward.” He says in a commanding voice.
“Aive bring them their reward.” He says while gesturing for a demi-human in a french maid outfit to come out. She walks carefully as if trying to not mess up and when she gets to us she hands us both a pouch with a saddened look on her face. I look at her and to my horror her ears which I think used to be fox ears were cut off to the point where they were almost gone. And her tail was stubby with scar tissue showing through the unkempt fur.
I glance at Aurora and she clearly is extremely uncomfortable being here.
“You sir shall get 300 gold pieces. And that animal next to you only gets fifty silver.” He says without even caring how she feels.
“I must say from what I’ve heard about you your fighting style is border line cowardice.” He mumbles under his breath.
“Now I must ask a favor of you adventurer. My wife is terribly sick. And since you are a black rank adventurer I would like you to help her.” He says while making a fake sad tone.
I start to chuckle to myself and as the seconds go by my laugh gets louder and louder until it’s at full volume. “Oh you really are a pitiful creature aren’t you? Asking for my help after insulting my fighting style. Hah don’t make me laugh. You despise your daughter, then I see that you have cut off Demi's ears and tail. Why? Is it because their differences scare you? And on top of all that you treat my party members unfairly because they are different. HAHAHA! And you still have the audacity to ask me for help? You should know that I believe in a thing called karma. If you do bad things. It comes back and does bad things to you. And it’s coming hard for you your majesty.” I say without any filter whatsoever.
“Come on Aurora. We’re leaving this fucked up place.” I say as I turn to start walking out the door.
I suddenly hear from behind me a squeal and rustling so I turn to see a knight holding her with his hand over her mouth.I draw my rifle and I point it at the knights head. “I’ll give you three seconds to let her go. And if you don’t I’ll make this room make the worse massacre in your guys's history look like child's play.” I say with a dead straight voice
“One. two. three. Times up bitches.” I say loud enough for everyone to hear and I pull the trigger.
The bullet rips through the air and hits the knight in the helmet and the exit wound is like a soda can getting blown open.
“SO WHAT WAS YOUR BITCH ASS SAYING ABOUT COWARDICE?” I yell over the armor clanking to the floor.
Before he could answer I raise the smoking barrel to face him.
“Know I want an apology and I’ll be on my way.” I say calmly after clearing my throat
“Please don’t I just want my wife to get better!” He says while shaking in fear
“You’ve outlasted that welcome.” I say.
“You should count your blessings because I’ll leave you alive. And if I hear anything about you doing shit like this again I’ll come back and finish the job. Understand?” I say while lowering the rifle.
I glance over at Aurora who was sitting on her knees holding her head that was splattered with the guy's blood. “Hey get up. we have some old bitch to go save.” I say while extending my arm out to her.
“Wait so you’ll help us?” He says with genuine joy in his voice.
“Yeah. I mean you would hunt us down if we didn’t. And I need to get work from you so might as well.” I say as I pull Aurora to her feet.
“Why do I feel like there will be a catch somewhere?” He says with a sigh.
“Because there is one. If you want me to help you in any way, shape or form you are going to have to start treating your demi-human maids like real people. This includes no ear and tail cutting. And I know for a damn well fact you're not paying them so you’ll pay them two gold an hour. Oh and one more thing. you will start cracking down on abuse and slavery of demi’s. Do you understand?” I ask politely
“If the other kingdoms find out about this my image will be ruined!” He stammers in rebuttal.
“Did I fucking stutter?” I say as I raise the rifle to point at him again.
“Okay fine!” He says scared. “Aive. show them the way to Emily. I need to stay here and work out your guy's pay.” After he says this I glance over at the line of maids by the wall and I could see what remained of their ears and tails perk up.
“Yes sir.” She says happily.
She walks over to us and gestures for us to follow her. We follow her out the big doors that we came in from. “Thank you. you have done a great deed for us today.” She says happily.
“Don’t thank me. I just believe that stuck up brats like him should be put in their place. Tell you what. Next time I’m in the castle I want you to report to me about how he’s been treating you guys while I’m gone.” I say quietly so no one will hear.
“Will do master.” She says with a cheery voice.
“Wait why did you just call him master?!” Aurora says, surprised.
I’ve always wanted to be called that by a maid.
“Oh it’s fine Aurora. It's just her job.” I say with a laugh.
“Kinky bitch.” She mutters at me.
“I heard that.” I snap back.
“Oh you can go fuck yourself red!” She says with a playful smile.
“Only if you watch.” I say to get her reaction and when I turn to see it she’s holding her tail up to her face trying to cover up her embarrassment.
“Okay master we’re here.” Aive says as she stops in front of another big set of doors.
“Well time to meet the queen I guess.” I say as Aive pulls the door open to reveal a large room with a large bed in the center of it. In the center of the bed was a frail looking woman with her fiery red hair swirling away from her like a piece of art from back home.
“Okay. this will be interesting to do.” I say as I walk to the sleeping queen.
I get next to her and I look at her for a second. She is most likely malnourished so when she wakes up we need to get her to eat something.
“Aive. go get the cook to prepare some soup. And tell him it needs to be done quickly.”
“Yes master.” She says before walking out the door.
I look back at the queen and I reach out my hand to touch her forehead. Greater healing. After thinking this a green magic circle about the size of my arm appears on the spot I’m touching her head.
A few minutes go by when Aive comes back with the soup. “Master. The soup you requested.”
“Oh thank you Aive. just sit it it on the table right there so it can cool off.”
I suddenly feel her start to move around. I look down at her as her eyes slowly open.
“Good day your highness.” I say like this was the usual routine.
“What are you doing in here?” She yells surprised.
“Saving your ass that's what. Aive bring the soup over here. Okay your highness you will need to stay in bed for a few days after I’m done. But you should be okay.” I say as Aive hands me the soup.
“Eat this. It should help you get some energy in you.”
“What is it?” She asks skeptically.
“It was made by the cook and we didn’t poison it so it’s just some regular tomato soup.”
She takes the spoon and starts to weakly eat.
“Okay that should do it for magic and now all you need to do is rest.” I say as the magic circle folds in on itself.
I hear the door slam open as the king runs in.
“Dear!” He says as she runs to his wife.
“You aren’t going anywhere near her until she is finished eating. Understand?” I say while blocking his path.
“Why?”
“Because she needs to eat right now so she can get strength to do basically anything.”
“Can I at least sit on a chair next to her?”
“Go for it.” I say after a sigh.
As the king pulls up a chair I walk over to Aurora.
“I need you to keep an eye on him. I’m stepping out for a bit of fresh air.”
“Wait red. Your eyes are different!” She says shocked.
“The hell do you mean?”
“Look at the mirror over there.”
“I don’t understand what your fussing about because I don’t feel any cha- What the fuck?” I say when I see it. My eye was pitch black with the same magic circle that was on my badge as my pupil but the only difference was the circle was scarlet red.
“Well this is an interesting development.” I say after studying it.
“I don’t feel any different so I guess it’s not hurting me.”
“Yeah but what caused it?” She asks concerned.
“Maybe this god killer rank has more strings attached then we originally thought.” I say while trying to stay rational.
Freeze. I think to myself and everything goes still.
“Ayo god. Can you give me some answers for this?” I ask him.
“Yeah unless you want to stay here for a few hours here's the short version. Since you were reincarnated from a different world you have never seen magic before, so when you us it for the first time it changes your eyes drastically.” His voice emanates from all around me.
“Well will this damage my eyes or something like that?”
“No what will happen is when you activate a spell your eyes will glow brightly. And they will always be that dark red color no matter what you do.”
“Wait. When you say my eyes glow, are we talking like bad ass anime character level of glow or a dim light?”
“Bad ass anime character.” he says with a sigh.
“Sweet! Okay I’ll talk to you later bro.”
“You too.” He replies with a small laugh.
Unfreeze.
“Okay so it doesn’t do anything except make me look like a bad ass when activating spells.” I say to her when all noise comes back.
“How’d you figure that out?” She asks while looking confused.
“I have my ways.”
“And will you ever tell me these ways?”
“most likely not.” I say with a laugh when I see her disappointed look
The king looks at us and gets up from his seat by his wife. He walks over to where we were standing and he quickly pulls me aside.
“Hey I need to talk to you in private.” He says while leaning down to whisper in my ear.
“And what is it you need to talk about?”
“It’s a reward for saving my wife.” He says with a genuine smile.
“If it's to help the party I need to bring Aurora along so she knows what is happening.”
He looks up at her and thinks for a moment. “Okay. Come with me.” He says to me and I gesture for her to follow.
We get to a big balcony overlooking the entire city and he walks to the railing and sighs
“Since you have helped me dearly I will let each of you choose something that I can give you as a reward.” He says while still looking out over the city.
“What's our limits?” Aurora asks skeptically
“Anything within reason.”
“Well I already have an idea of what I would like.” I say after a few seconds.
“And what is that wish?” He asks while turning around to face me.
“I want to learn the ability to use creation magic.” I say with a straight face.
“It will be hard but do-able.” The king says while thinking
“Now what is it you want miss?” He asks Aurora.
“We don’t have to pay toll fees when traveling.” She says after a minute of thought.
“Okay. I’ll start working on getting you a merchant chip. And for the creation magic what are you even going to use it for?”
“It’s in the name. Creation magic.” I say with a shit eating grin on my face.
“Okay I’ll start sourcing the items. They will be ready by tomorrow.”
“And with that we will take our leave for the day.” I say as I turn to start walking back down to the city streets.

I'm a Mallu transplanted to Gujarat and living here since the past 15 years, and anytime I return to my native land for a visit, I feel reluctant to get plugged into the way of life there. Don't get me wrong, I do have the pride of being a Mallu, but feel sometimes the sights I observer there, or the way of life, I feel very reticent about admitting that I am one.
A trip to my hometown in Kerala, is not always the sight what i expect. I usually stay with my aunt and i can always hear that their neighbours fighting with her. The neighbours throw their leaves into her backyard, and every morning she ends up throwing these back to his yard.
This is not a one of instance, I have observed this while traveling, where people throw garbage at someone else's yard. It seems baffling to me why this is happening and after living all my life in Gujarat, I have not noticed such sights.
Also what annoys me the most is the way outsiders are treated. As I lived outside Kerala, I sometimes find this offensive.
Once I noticed a North Indian sitting in a bus and a Malayali asks him to get up and says “nee bengali okke irrikaru ayo njangal ivide nilkumbol” (how dare you sit when we malayalis are standing). The best part is most of them do not even say anything.
From my experience, there is 2 types of Mallus I have encountered, one is the Crab and the other is the chameleon. This is terms of mentality The first one the crab you have to watch out as they will find a way to put you down, and will do so under any circumstances even if they end up hurting you the most.
From my experience, they do gossip and spread rumours behind your back. Even if they do not know you, they will make up some story.
The genetically inherited state of perpetual spitefulness toward our fellow statesmen is exemplary .More than often it is always a Malayali who hates seeing another Malayali succeed and will do anything he can to ensure that that doesn't happen. But sometimes this exist to even outsiders.
The chameleon is the one which will stick with you just till you remain useful to him or her and then will dump you as soon as the use of the particular person runs out.
Let me share a story of a person, who I know.
This is a person, who my parents used to lend money, as we are distant relatives (4th Cousin), seeing their financial difficulty. This person, who used to live in a small house next to their rich relative, one day got scolded for letting his daughter studying in their house as they were utilising his electricity. Now wait, how much electricity this person could have consumed since, they are sitting with the other people's children as well. Such narrow minded thinking. The thing which I find strange is that once the rich relative has passed away and when his wife is the only one there alive, this person has forgotten all the people who had helped him and instead went and praise the very person who had always abused him, hoping to get some money from them. This is the lack of gratitude and self respect that I have seen.
Very easily people forget who has helped them at the hour of need and become ungrateful.
I will not deny that it is not a highly literate place, but the literacy (not sure if it is the right one) has resulted in another problem, where instead of being humble has produced people with irrational thoughts, where there is a distinct reluctance to show respect to a fellow being and has produced a lack of proper rational thinking.
The high education is used in a wrong way, and instead of cooperation most of them live end up creating a self-sustaining ecosystem in another land, and eventually individuals break off from the ecosystem, as most are opportunist and only need the ecosystem to suit their needs. Tension and anxiety is in-built in a Malayali as most of them are aware that they cannot exist in one mallu ecosystem for long, due to the belief that someone might cause trouble for them. They even find it hard to exist in other ecosystem as well. My friend who is settled in Sydney said to me, whichever multicultural country they are in, they go and meet their fellow Mallus like they’re in the Matrix and the sole Malayali restaurant three towns away is their hub and hardly ever take a chance to meet anyone who is an outsider.
Malayalis seem to form a group wherever they go. And from my experience, the mallus who avoid such group tend to be very critical of general mallu attitude. I'm one of those people who try staying away from such Mallu associations because they are the very things that make me happy as I have been living outside Kerala for the last decades. The irony of this Mallu group is that no one knows who is backstabbing whom.
Unlike Mallu pride protectors, I can safely say, I love the Mallu land, but don't really fancy some of its cultural and hypocritical elements. I rather live a simple life compared to being a pious hypocrite and cheating people, and having superiority complex and looking down on others.
I am grateful for the fact that my family was successful in Gujarat, and do not have the need for a false ego, and appreciate good people anywhere.

Everywhere you go in Kerala, you experience a fake sense of camaraderie. As a Keralite myself, I feel that most of the time the friendship, secularism and relationship are just a means to an end.
As a person of mixed Hindu and Christian background, just by using my observation skills, I can tell you that most of them are just loud to tell that their point of view is right, while disregarding and discounting the point of others. Christians look down on fellow christians , hindus are all caste based and never form relationship with others. Everyday people have to show off to prove that with their wealth, overall people just try to one up each other. Not only are people in Kerala so cynical of each others, but also outsiders are also very wary of dealing with them. Let me share a twitter feed which I have come across

https://preview.redd.it/abmutmsa7p761.png?width=602&format=png&auto=webp&s=ca395bee40911cc1b7662b9bcf25ab600741b626
Usually, wherever Malayalis go they try and form clans and poke their noses into other people’s business.
Let me highlight their qualities
Fake Friendship - People are your friends only when they need you. usually if they find that you are in some trouble do not even expect them to pick your phone calls. This is true even for relatives as well. A means to an end. The only unity among malayalis is alcohol.
Another point is backstabbing and gossiping people. Always poking their noses in other people’s business and trying to get some dirt. Anyone who comes to visit you in Kerala, just comes to find out what you are up to. Have no respect for privacy.Whenever you go , someone always has to comment on how much I'm eating. It's always like "why are you dieting ", "Why did you marry that person", "Why are you going to bangalore" etc etc. and then go spread this information everywhere.
Unification factor - Alcoholism.
Any party any where all of them just guzzle alcohol like there is no tomorrow and they usually does it for free. If you ever want to meet a bunch of free loaders just go to “God’s own country” and after drinking they make lewe comments on all races except their own people, because they are having the superiority feeling.
Clannish - Everyone else apart from them lack wisdom. Just because you had a degree, does not make a place civilized. Having the assumption that a few certificates make them invincible. and outsiders are only good for labour jobs.
Money goes to their head - Always try and flaunt their wealth. Generally a Malayali attitude is to show off their bank balance. Inside their head they are 4th century and on the outside it is 21st century BC. Just listen and analyze what they talk. You will understand what I mean.
Religious show off - Just go to a church and what you see is the maximum show off.
Know it all attitude - everyone has an opinion. but ask them have you read an international best seller, they have not. I have read the malayalam news. I know politics, that is it. Always bragging if they know one answer to “ Speaking in English when they know you’re a Malayali. This irks me to no end, particularly when the main perpetrators are not fluent enough to maintain the conversation when replied to in English. Like to show off their English skills even when they are full of crap. If someone like Shashi Tharoor or a highly educated employee speaks
I can understand. If the whole world knew how to add and not subtract, and while one malayali knows how to subtract .. uff the arrogance that stems from that knowledge. Always say that they know better English than North Indians and try to one up them
Backstabbing attitude - The genetically inherited inherent state of perpetual spitefulness toward our fellow statesmen is exemplary . More than often it is always a Malayalee who hates seeing another Malayalee succeed and will do anything he can to ensure that that doesn't happen. Can’t see someone succeeding.
Yep, People are cynical of malayalis as most people try to avoid bad company

Being a Malayali myself, I took so much pride in being one while doing my undergraduate studies in Chennai. After a while the pride slowly faded once the reality kicked in. Mallus living outside Kerala act so liberal, that is the ones raised without much Kerala influence, but inside Kerala, they are very orthodox in views regarding gender issues, equality, racism and caste. It took me a while to realize that most people there are phony.
Don't believe the hype of some Malayalis who will say 100 percent literacy or HDI or the slogan "God's own country". Get down to the real cultural values by peeling the skin and looking beneath the surface. That is where you will find the real values. Just like you do not eat orange peel, and eat only the flesh, one must see the inner Kerala.
We will always say that there are problems in North India, but seldom criticize our own faults, We shun honor killings in north, but will emotionally blackmail our children marrying from another religion, caste, or community etc. I remember my friend, who while studying in Australia, married an Aussie white girl and his mother was constantly hoping that the girl would leave him so that he can marry a Malayali girl. Little do they realise that relationship is based on Humanity and not on the community.
What I find odd about the Kerala culture is that even though most of them have a high school degree, they have narrow minded views. Myself being an orthodox christian, my family has always advised me against marrying catholic or from other christian community. Forget about Hindus or other religions. To me Humanity comes first.
They act so progressive and in the loop but it's all just a show. It's like they're trying to balance their ego in two different worlds. Lack of forward thinking is the problem
I remember my neighbor and his family in Kerala, who was struggling financially and then went to Saudi, earned a lot of money and suddenly went from being genial social folks to suddenly putting on airs and looking down their noses at everyone else. They walk with their heads held high. These very people once they come down a bit will immediately run back to the people whom they treated with disrespect and without hesitation call them. Talk about hypocrisy.
From what I have seen and observed is that, we are very opinionated and comment on each and everything irrespective of our knowledge on the subject. We neither practice personal space or are just not aware of the concept and is always poking noses into other people's business.
I have to give credit to Anish M for the below bit, I added this here because it makes my point (Answer to why Kerala is so Backward )
Just because statistics show that 100 percent literacy , fancy houses etc, does not mean that they are civil. Very few keralites are well mannered. They are educated but this is the term i had learned from the internet ( Educated Idiots)
  • An educated neighbour next door will not mind his own business. If you plant some vegetables in your yard he/ she next door will not do that instead they will find ways to destroy your vegetables.
  • No family unity. Kerala culture is very simple. All relationship is like a pre paid mobile balance, if you don't recharge you lose your connection. In simple terms, if you are wealthy you will be having relatives and as soon as your wealth drops or you are in a bad situation your connection stops. You need to recharge.
  • I had once applied from my company to go to US on H1 B visa, my colleague who also applied got rejected. Immediately when he returned from the consulate he said if i don't get the visa you will not get. my interview was next week and I managed to get the H1 B visa. Imagine how petty and narrow minded keralites are. Only jealousy and selfishness.
  • Never satisfied in life. No matter how rich they get they never even buy a thing for themselves only keep storing money and wont even share a meal with anyone. Money = life, love, husband, child , and everything.
  • Had property in kerala before, cut down a few trees and i asked the person who had cut them down if he needs them. he said he will haul it away. Next day when he came to take it, Union people showed up and they stopped him from taking. They said pay them and then take. Never will they do anything or will or will let anyone do anything.
Looking at all these scenarios, how can one be very open in a society like this.
Literacy and highest HDI doesn't indicate progressiveness and common sense.
People don't like associating with phoney people but unfortunately most of them are. It's sad. to see people pretending to be a liberal. They are not even in the process of becoming one.

From an NRI Keralite perspective, I do not know how to describe my own society. On the one hand we have highly literate people who have lived in multiple countries and with exposure of different cultures, but still think with a backward mentality.
Many people born to parents who hail from Kerala but are raised abroad or outside of Kerala find Malayali society judgmental, narrow-minded and even nasty. It is a common complaint among such individuals to abhor having anything to do with Malayalis.
I had a Malayali friend from college who was raised in North India and only used to hang out with non-Malayalis. He was honest enough to say that he had learnt it the hard way about how people of his hometown ganged up against those who were raised elsewhere.
I remember my father's comments when I was young and living in Sharjah, my fathers always kept keen eye on the Kerala news, always hung around his fellow Keralites and discuss Kerala politics, participate in kerala cultural events and also talking about how great his things are back in Kerala. But after he retired and returned back home, he slowly started lamenting his decisions. Being unwelcome in his own land after decades away makes most Malayalis depressed and resentful. He now clearly tells me that his biggest regret is that he has helped people back home and now they treat him as an outcast. Many NRI's in the Arab world feel the same.
Among the "Gulf Malayalis", there are those who have spent decades in Arab countries working hard, taking care of their families and relatives back home, and dreaming of a peaceful life in kerala, But often what awaits them at the end of the decades-long ordeal is unspeakable ignominy and agony. Their closest family and friends get so used to their lucrative lifestyle and easy way of being taken care of, that their eventual return, and the subsequent termination of remittances, are greeted with resentment.
Comfortably entrenched in a culture of profligacy, and the anticipation of receiving gifts makes their love grow, but a sudden loss of benefits makes people resentful. People have become used to being without jobs and as they say "An idle mind is a Devil's Workshop", makes people look out for schemes to make money, by hook or crook and not indulge in anything productive.
The byproduct of the easy money relationship is the rampant consumerism, growing religious fundamentalism, mindless materialism, and last but not the least, the consequences of entire generations growing up in the absence of proper family structure and moral values.
Malayalis are also a compulsively argumentative society, a society that almost substituted the cacophony of arguments for the material gains and are willing to go any lengths to accomplish this. The argumentative and loud way of life stems from the fact that everything is a competition to become better and show off.
I remember when we were looking for a groom for my sister, my mother always said look for the rich guy and what happened from all this is that she finally got married to one and was a good wife, only to have the relationship broken because always the discussion of money would come into play. I remember my sisters in laws always bragging that their daughter in law is a doctor and hardly introduced her by her name. From their end, it seems like a bad deal because they did not get a family with a lot of connections.
During my childhood, from what i have observed among friends families is that, the Gulf, Malyalis who were wealthy, had to invite religious leaders, politicians, actors and association leaders to their houses for meals and have to prove themselves that they are prominent members, also taking photographs with Malayalam stars and politicians and have those photos published. The humour in this is that once these NRI Malayalis lose their business or jobs in the gulf, these photos are just memories and no one in the photo even wants to talk with them.
What I don't get is the fact that people are never satisfied and want to pretend to live a larger than life and in the pursuit will ultimately live miserably. I have seen Malayalis who have lost their jobs in Dubai, all of a sudden become an outcast and becomes a lonely figure, and when they return home, live in a mansion they have built, with the only touch to the outside world is through television. Most of them even try to go out somewhere else and live as money buys their relationship in their homeland, and as soon as the well dries up, they have to go elsewhere and live.
It is true that a bit of prejudice runs in Kerala against those who do not subscribe to the local viewpoint, traditions or even a conservative dress code. Still when you compare it with other places in India, it is much more clean, better healthcare.
But for all the gains that have been made over the years, the Kerala society has remained culturally stagnant for a few decades. It is now apparent that despite its tremendous record in education, health and society-building, narrow-mindedness, bigotry and moral policing are on the rise. All this has also led to society becoming more judgmental when it comes to dealing with outsiders and even its own who have returned from other cultures.
Kerala is a paradoxical enigma, where to any outsider it is a land of beauty with lots of greenery, big houses and picture perfect postcard photos, but to a Non native who has spend a lot of time there or an NRI Keralite, it is a land that ooze unbearable pain, a life filled with people only wanting them for their wealth or being isolated, and most of them leave or try and settle down somewhere else so as to find a modicum of happiness.
The irony of NRI Keralite is that even though they face all the hardship back home and eventually settling down somewhere else, and becoming very cynical, they try and recreate a little kerala and hope that the new Kerala will be how it is imagined in their dreams. The fact that they settle abroad due to these and forming various malayali associations creates a new breed where the exiled ones are skeptical of the native born Malayalis.
It is a land where all Non natives have a joke - “The joke doing the rounds is that Kerala, being God's own country, requires every Adam and Eve born there to be expelled and sent down to earth”
For all the education, I wonder which equation went wrong for our society to become this way.

Let me clarify from a Keralite point of view
After initial love affair from childhood with the familiar culture which I have grown up with and moving to a new environment,
I can understand why my own people Malayali are treated with suspicion and skeptical.Outside the borders of God's own country, we are prepared to do anything, any time, for any duration and that is why we are recognized as good workers wherever we are.
Are we the same in our Homeland? No, we are just the exact opposite. One thing they fail to realise is that chauvinism and white collar attitude can sell only in Mallu home land. While in Kerala, they do not like to soil their clothes and wet their hands.
Keralites are raised from childhood with a sense of superiority and that we are the only 100 percent literate people anywhere and that is one of the reason that we are snobbish and walk with our noses held up high. While the snobbish attitude exist, the irony is that Outside the borders of God's own country, we are prepared to do anything any time, for any duration and wherever we are. Are we the same in our Homeland? No, we are just the exact opposite. Malayalis will work anywhere but when confronted with an oppotunity to exploit someone and take unfair advantage they will do it without any hesitation. They do this because every aspect of Mallu culture is boasting and showing that you are better than anyone else.
The life of a Mallu is always filled with struggles. A struggle not only to make both ends meet, but also to meet the demands of our show off culture. We usually go abroad or move to other states to make a living. We work and live like a sparrow and save like a squirrel for the rainy day. A closer look into our lives will give us an insight of what life really is.
Each and every Malayali who is sensible knows that if he is talented the others will put him down and must be suspicious of their relatives or friends. There is a scene in Roman Polanski's "The Pianist". A Jew tries to get away from an apartment where he's been holed up for months but unfortunately is spotted by a neighbour.
As he scrambles down the stairs as fast as he can, she screams with utter contempt and hate: "Catch him! He's a JEW!!!
That is exactly the way how many people feel, while working with them - Like a Jew in Hitler's Nazi Germany.
I remember former colleague, Vijay who himself is a keralite mockingly say "You should first kill a Mallu, if you happen to meet a Mallu and a poisonous snake together." Well, he meant it as a joke, but there are others who do so from the heart.
There is a Term which people use to decribe the attitudes of Keralites, it is called "Malluism". Let me describe the characteristics of a Malluism.
#BeingMallu is to have your best friend always from the any other community. Why - Very Simple. Mallus do not trust anpther Mallu as he is afraid of the backstabbing
#BeingMallu – Find a way to declare that every other movie is a remake of a mallu movie - Meaning, all movies do not hold a candle to Malayalam films. Everything else is crap
The Malayali “Know-it-all” Attitude
Since the level of school graduates is high , social emancipation, widely traveled people for jobs abroad, muggin up newspapers than any other state, Malayalees have this feeling of “we know everything” and are storehouses of General Knowledge. Even if that knowledge is in bits and pieces and often wrong.
#Being mallu is being a know-it-all and proclaiming it to all.
They have discussion on anything from politics to anything under the sun. But half baked information and will argue that they are correct. The I-know-everything…I-am-everything attitude. They believe in knowing something about and having an opinion on everything under the sun.
The Judgemental, Crabby, Self-Righteous Malayali Poking noses into others business.
Malayalees pass judgement on any and everything under the sun, no matter what. It is a nasty habit, as much is that of pulling the other guy down (crabbiness) and ignoring one’s own house to concentrate on what is going on in the next house.
The Malayali is at times so two faced that it borders on hypocrisy.
A few more Mallusim
#BeingMallu – Cycle gap koduthal avide Volvo kettuka. ( Squeeze a Volvo where there is a gap only for a cycle)
#BeingMallu - is the ultimate ‘para’ backstabbing to another Mallu or anyone else.
#BeingMallu - Neighbours are more interested in your affairs than theirs.
#BeingMallu - Means everyone has an opinion on your life.
#BeingMallu - Everybody else is worried about your whereabouts more than your parents
#Beingmallu Judging people by their looks.
I guess now we know why most people outside and inside are always skeptical.
After slowly distancing myself from Mallus, I guess I turned into a better person.
Article by Brigid Wagner
I am from Germany and had lived in Kerala for a year due for doing a humanities project. I was doing for my job. I was very much excited to go there first because I got to explore a new culture and country, but now I must say I will never step foot in Kerala ever again.
Yes, it's a beautiful place, very beautiful, but as someone said before...they don't like anyone who is not of their kind. I was brashed and harassed because I am a white person and not a malayalee..only a very few people I met were nice, but these people either were shunned out from their community as they didn't follow the expectations as they had visioned life different from the "malayalee" life, or they have been abroad elsewhere, know better how to treat people and are also disgusted by their own people. When I tried to speak in malayalam, I was made fun of and people were pointing fingers and laughing..they also act they are better than me and have stabbed me in the back before. They also love to make snobby comments in front of me because they know I don't understand malayalam. Selfish, arrogant, and very disrespectful. It's funny because when I went to Tamil Nadu and Northern India, they were very accepting and friendly..I made a lot of friends from there. I don't know what makes malayalees think they are better...but I heard from a malayalee friend, who feels the same way and is living in the US that they think they are superior than other people..this why many many malayalees born and raised abroad shun their heritage out, marry outside of Kerala and basically want nothing to do with it.and it should be understood because of the way malayalees behave. I have seen this among malayalees in northern India too..just like the US and abroad, they feel the same. Of course not all of them are like that, but a good majority of them are horrible..sorry.
I don't think anyone, unless you are a native of Kerala and believe in the same thinking, will ever say "I am proud to be a malayalee". Don't want to say everything was bad but my experience there would never make me go back there.

I translated The new MSU update email on COVID into plain English that gets to the point

Ok, so I am gonna strike out all the original text of the newest MSU email about Coronavirus and Fall 2020 updates, and replace each section with a plain-English translation of what they're saying. (This is for "entertainment purposes only" and DOES NOT REPLACE YOUR NEED TO READ THE ACTUAL EMAIL ABOUT ANYTHING YOU DON'T 100% UNDERSTAND.) That said, these emails beat around the bush too much with PR-speak. Everyone who should be reading this stuff ignores it because it's too complicated to read. Hopefully this will help.

JULY 2020 MSU UPDATE:

MSU is planning to welcome more Spartans back to campus. Safety is our highest priority, and we also are working hard to ensure we support an engaged and connected experience for all. Email updates will help keep you informed about the latest planning and preparation. Success will take all of us working together, and we welcome your input.
MSU is coming back to campus for fall 2020 and we're gonna try to be safe about COVID but that depends on all of our students, too, so listen up.
Dear Spartans:
ayo, COVID check:
During the past few weeks, our community has been reminded just how pervasive COVID-19 is, both locally and across the nation. The rise in cases is concerning, and we are counting on all Spartans to embrace the personal responsibility and resolve that are vital to our progress toward returning to campus this fall. This includes wearing face coverings inside and outside while on campus, with limited exceptions, and practicing physical distancing. In addition, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer last week issued a new executive order requiring face coverings in all public indoor spaces and public outdoor spaces where social distancing cannot be practiced.
COVID is getting bad around here. You'll be required to wear masks inside and outside while on campus and stay six feet apart from people. Our governor, Big Gretch, requires this in all of Michigan, now, anyway. Expect to do it here, too, but ALL THE TIME and EVERYONE: no being a Karen about it will be allowed. (you too, Ken!)
Like almost any large institution across the country, the university has not been able to completely avoid cases of COVID-19 and cannot expect to completely avoid them going forward; however, we firmly believe we can work together to limit the amount of risk you and your fellow Spartans encounter. This applies to all members of the MSU community, both before and after they return to campus. We know decisions to wear masks and maintain physical distancing can have a positive impact on the health of our students, colleagues, instructors, loved ones and friends. It is against this backdrop that the university provides these updates and encourages all Spartans to commit to the safety and well-being of themselves and others.
I know you're mad at us for being so vague, but every college is doing this, so, get over it. We're trying not to get sued or have to shutter our doors and we need your tuition money now more than ever. We literally can't avoid COVID from happening on campus, but you all can help: don't be dumb about COVID starting now, wherever you are, and also whenever you come back to campus. Masks and social distancing helps, so everyone on campus will be wearings masks. That means you.

Stay informed

As always, safety is our first priority as we consider our approach. We are carefully monitoring COVID-19 in Michigan and across the United States, as well as information from public health leaders. The next few weeks will be critical as we prepare for arrival on campus. We’ll be ready to adapt our plans, if needed, moving forward. You can learn more on our Together We Will website, recently redeveloped to make it easier for you to find the information and updates you need.
We have plans to keep everyone safe: Plans that will change to adapt with the coronavirus situation.

Students living on campus

MSU’s Residential and Hospitality Services continues to put plans in place for fall. They have developed an extensive FAQ guide, which includes several key decisions. Any students who test positive for COVID-19 will be asked to self-isolate in university housing or return to their homes off campus and/or permanent residences. Isolation rooms on campus have been set aside for this purpose. We are strongly discouraging guests and visitors in residence halls or apartments, and no overnight guests will be allowed for the fall 2020 semester.
We have plans to make on-campus housing work for fall 2020. Students with COVID-19 will go to special isolation housing set aside for that purpose or be asked to return to their homes. Don't bring visitors to your MSU housing this fall. Don't. Seriously, just, don't. And no overnight guests until 2021. (Yes, it's time to order PH Premium.)
Students can choose to remain on campus until Dec. 18 at the full room-and-board rate or receive a housing and dining credit if they move out by Nov. 25. We are asking students to select this option by completing the Thanksgiving Credit Form in their My Housing account by July 20, as that will assist with our planning.
You can stay on campus 'til December 18th for full price or get a "kind-of-discount" for moving out by November 25th, BUT YOU WILL ONLY GET THAT CREDIT ("discount") IF YOU DECLARE THAT BY JULY 20TH (WHICH IS 4 DAYS FROM NOW, hurry up!)
In addition, students whose fall 2020 semester schedules consist solely of online courses and who intend to reside with a parent or legal guardian for the fall 2020 semester may apply to live off-campus for the fall 2020 semester by submitting a Learn from Home Application by Aug. 1. The Learn From Home option is only available for the fall 2020 semester. Information about the spring 2021 semester will be provided later this year.
Also, you only have until August 1st (5th?) to sign this form and submit it if you:
  1. Don't wanna live on campus for fall 2020 and don't want to pay for housing as if you were
  2. update from u/cobnob317: "The Learn From Home form due date got pushed back to August 5th, and from what I understand you can now take that option even if you have in-person or hybrid classes."
p.s.: this doesn't apply to on-campus apartments students, just the residence hall peeps
More information on these decisions and others are answered in the FAQ guide.

COVID-19 testing

As we see an increase in cases in our area and across the nation, it is important to reiterate that any member of our community exhibiting signs of COVID-19 must seek immediate medical attention. If feeling ill, students should contact Olin Health Center’s 24-hour nurse line at (517 353-5557 or contact their health care provider. Faculty and staff should contact their primary care physician. If you are ill, you should self-isolate and avoid close contact with others.)
COVID-19 cases are going up. Anyone in the MSU community with signs of it must seek medical attention. Call (517) 353-5557 or your doctor if so, if you're a student. (MSU workers call their PCP). IF YOU ARE ILL, SELF-ISOLATE FOR 14 DAYS AND DO NOT GO NEAR OTHER PEOPLE OR ANIMALS.
We know there are basic ways to reduce the transmission of the virus, including mask-wearing, physical distancing and good hygiene, such as frequent handwashing. We continue to work on a testing approach that will allow us to rapidly help individuals who have symptoms and work effectively with our local and state public health agencies to identify and test those who may have been exposed. MSU also will continue to work with local health departments on contact tracing for any potential cases, and we plan to hire additional staff to help with tracing related specifically to campus.
Wear a mask, keep 6 feet apart from people at all times when not alone on campus, and keep good hygiene (for example, don't touch your eyes, mouth or nose until you've washed your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water any time you have been in a shared area of campus.) We're improving our COVID-19 testing. We're working with agencies to ID and test anyone who might be exposed to the virus. We're hiring more people to trace the virus on campus (to slow it down.)
While details continue to evolve on testing, we can share the following plans:
We don't have any idea about anything at all, right now, but heres a list of 4 things we can actually say for sure:
As more details are finalized surrounding MSU’s testing plans, we will update our community.
Relax, sis! Just pay your tuition and sign those housing contracts and vibe with us for a few months. We'll tell you more details later, when it's too late to get refunds.

Compliance and reporting

As I have said before, face coverings are required for everyone (faculty, staff, students, contractors, suppliers, vendors and visitors while on campus, both indoors and outdoors.)
Every human on MSU's campus will have to wear a mask, indoors and outdoors.
In adjusting to this new reality, we recognize the need to have mechanisms in place to help our community members appropriately handle emerging situations. We believe those who come to campus will commit to the personal responsibility necessary for us to remain as safe as possible, and we recognize there may be times when action will be necessary to reinforce expectations. MSU will count on the processes already in place to respond to any issues of noncompliance with standards established for the health and safety of our community.
Any human that doesn't wear a mask on MSU's campus is going to be... dealt with. Don't test us (or your fellow students.)
For faculty needing to handle disruptions in the classroom, the responses and processes that have been used previously remain the first line of action. If necessary, the student conduct system will be the avenue used to adjudicate student disciplinary situations. Similarly, supervisors will use the regular processes outlined by Human Resources for any situation involving an employee. Academic Human Resources should be contacted for situations involving faculty and academic staff.
Professors will deal with disruptions in the classroom just like before, whether students or employees are the problem.
MSU’s Misconduct Hotline is another avenue that members of the campus community can use to make reports regarding compliance with the new policies put in place in light of the pandemic. It is important that all reports include both the date and location of the incident. Confidential and anonymous reports can be made online or by calling 800-763-0764.
Report all Karens and maskless Chads here, anonymously. Or call 800-763-0764.

Webcasts

Last week, two webcasts focused on returning to campus were posted online. I was joined by Executive Vice President for Health Sciences Norman J. Beauchamp Jr. to answer questions from faculty and staff and by Vice President and Associate Provost for Student Affairs and Services Denise B. Maybank and Vice President for Auxiliary Enterprises Vennie Gore to answer questions from admitted students and parents.
This week, Associate Provost for Teaching, Learning and Technology Jeff Grabill and Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education Mark Largent hosted three new episodes of Spartan Fireside. Their guests answered questions about the learning and campus experiences planned for this fall.
Click here for lots of hour-long video conferences of us acting like we know what we're doing

Expectations and updates

We cannot eliminate the virus from our community, as much as we would like to, and campus will feel different this fall than it has in the past. We are working tirelessly to create the best environment we can for people to learn, work and live. It is incumbent on all of us to keep ourselves and others safe when we’re all on campus together. You will continue to receive updates on our health and safety initiatives as they evolve over the summer.
Look, there's 50,000 of you. A whole bunch of you act like 12 year olds. Coronavirus is going to fuck things up at MSU this fall. We can't legally tell you that when it happens, it will be the fault of stupid fucking idiot students who ignored everything we're doing and saying to sneak into a bar to drink shitty alcohol and smash some puss in their dorm because PornHub isn't good enough for them. But we can tell you that when that happens, we're all going to be pissed off at those idiots. Together.
Together, we will.
Sincerely,
MSU, as translated by some guy on Reddit

Mini Korean lesson with Ma City lyrics

Mini Korean lesson with Ma City lyrics
This song is in my top 15 for sure. And the live tour performance is one of my favourites ever. Their energy is just insane. As always, the pretty version of this one is posted at BangtanKorean.com
Also, verse two features one of my favourite plays on words from Hobi. Look for the KIA/gear line. So Hobi!

Context Note:

One of the things that makes BTS a bit noteworthy to Koreans is that none of them are natives of Seoul. They all hail from different parts of the country, as follows:
Gyeonggi Province:
RM: Born in Seoul, but raised in Ilsan, just north of Seoul
Jin: Born and raised in Gwacheon, just south of Seoul
Gyeongsang Province (North):
SUGA: Born and raised in Daegu
V: Born in Daegu, raised mostly in Daegu, but spent a few years in Geochang, west of Daegu
Jeolla Province (South):
j-hope: Born and raised in Gwangju
Gyeongsang Province (South):
Jimin: Born and raised in Busan
Jungkook: Born and raised in Busan

Since the uprising, which was related to the fight for democracy in SK, it has been a topic of debate between far right and far left groups. One such right-wing group, using an internet forum, took to referring to Gwangju as “7 o’clock” because of its position on the map of South Korea.)

As Quest Mage has been nerfed, the pressure of the meta has decreased. This meta report lists multiple decks, including decks that are low in popularity.

Note...
Meta overview:
Ashes of Outland is receiving its second "legal hearing". After Quest Mage received its "last meal" of Evocation before its upcoming execution (nerf), it learned that it was only to be demoted. Odd Demon Hunter was similarly demoted but its punishment was more akin to a fine. But relatively speaking, Quest Mage survived, while Darkest Hour Warlock was hauled to the chopping block. That deck that terrorized for more than a year was hauled off of its high horse. Mecha’thun Warlock also did not escape punishment (with the Bloodbloom nerf).
The second round of nerfs was targeted at Quest Mage, Darkest Hour Warlock, and Standard Demon Hunter. But the nerfs to Bad Luck Albatross and Sacrificial Pact cannot be ignored. The nerf of the former relieves pressure from highlander decks, while that of the latter means that Warlock and Demon Hunter will be less susceptible to Zephrys the Great. The nerf to Kael’thas Sunstrider was targeted at Standard Druid but also hit Wild Druid. With regard to Wild format, the biggest effect of the nerf was to weaken Quest Mage while Odd Demon Hunter was not crippled and continues to dominate ladder. The nerf to Darkest Hour Warlock was inconsequential as after Shadow Word: Ruin was added to Zephrys’ Discover pool, the deck ceased to have heavily favored matchups. Losing Darkest Hour Warlock did not significantly change the other decks in the meta.
The widely feared Quest Mage is no longer as consistent after the nerfs. Flamewaker Quest Mage now needs an excellent starting hand to complete the quest; in the past it was possible to complete the quest without a good hand, but now it is more difficult to do so, indicating the deck is weaker to aggro. Reno Quest Mage is also weakened as it now needs more turns to generate additional spells to complete the quest. On the whole, both variants of Quest Mage have been hit hard by the nerf and their popularity has nosedived, leading to a meta in flux. Decks that were previously suppressed by Quest Mage have resurfaced. Among these are Hemet Mecha’thun Warlock and Reno Priest demonstrating decent popularity, which fare well against decks not Quest Mage. Like Quest Mage, the aforementioned two decks have OTK potential, albeit less reliably. Reno Priest relies on drawing Raza the Chained and Shadowreaper Anduin and cannot OTK before turn 8. Quest Mecha’thun Warlock can win as early as turn 7, and usually around turn 10. Relatively speaking, Mecha’thun Warlock has supplanted Quest Mage as the sharp blade that suppresses slower strategies. The decline in popularity of Quest Mage can partially be attributed to its replacement by these other combo decks. It would seem that slower decks struggle in this meta, but that is not the case.
As the saying goes, combo decks counter control. But in the case of Reno Priest that is not entirely correct. Reno Priest can struggle against the pressure of midrange and control but it fares better against some aggro. The deck is simply a highlander control deck in the guise of a combo deck; its combo potential is a case of “buy one get one free”. Mecha’thun Warlock rather counters control, but its weaknesses are evident. It fears Dirty Rat, it fears Loatheb on its combo turns, and it must watch its health total. Older Mecha’thun Warlock lists that included Voidcaller or quest were less susceptible to Dirty Rat as the only target was Mecha’thun itself. But the current deck also has as its Dirty Rat targets Dollmaster Dorian and Kael’thas Sunstrider, without either its combo is impossible. Once a control deck has Dirty Rat in hand, it has a higher chance of disrupting the Mecha’thun combo. As a result, neither Reno Priest nor Mecha’thun Warlock have become the killers of control decks. If you want to play a control deck, in theory, you do not need to take into account the existence of Reno Priest nor Mecha’thun Warlock.
In spite of this, the wishes of players for a “control meta” are unrealistic. This is because control decks are not inherently strong. If one wants to count on Dead Man’s Hand Warrior, N’Zoth Reno Mage, Reno Shaman etc. being popular, that is clearly impossible. Weaker control decks have not resurfaced, but some mid-control decks have. The classic examples are Reno Hunter and Big Priest. Soon, we may even see Reno Warlock and Even Warlock reappear.
While control decks may not face pressure from combo decks, the current meta environment is full of aggro decks, such as Even Shaman, Odd Paladin, Pirate (Token) Druid, Murloc Paladin that rely on flooding the board; lacking a board clear can mean being snowballed to a quick defeat. There also exist aggro decks like Secret Mage, Odd Demon Hunter, Galakrond Warrior that rely on early tempo combined with direct burn; taking excess damage from an early board can result in a dangerous position. Aggro decks are becoming gradually more well-rounded and are able to reliably construct strong early boards, access burn strategies, and maintain pressure without running out of resources. This means non-aggro decks must have the full suite of counter strategies, including small board clears, large board wipes, single target removal, and healing. As it is hard to have all of the above, this indicates that non-aggro strategies will be unfavored. By Hearthstone’s nature, aggro dominates, unless the non-aggro deck is extremely broken, like Quest Mage before its nerf.
From the advent of the Wild format aggro has been king. Even when there have appeared extremely strong combo decks, the counters that arise are aggro decks. The current meta lacks ridiculous combo decks, so the aggro deck that beats the other aggro decks must be the strongest deck in the format. Last patch those decks were Even Shaman and Galakrond Warrior. No aggro deck clearly dominates the others in the current meta, but based on popularity, Odd Demon Hunter at 20% of the “meta slave” meta (not exactly sure what this means) may be the strongest. But the deck is not perfect and has many inherent weaknesses, and counters may arise in future. Once the deck’s popularity drops, the meta will be shaken up again.
Currently, the meta has not stabilized. Any change in a deck can have a butterfly effect. There are many decks with undeveloped potential. In the near future, many decks can either find new life or drop in popularity.

Popular meta tech cards:
There is no doubt the popularity of certain tech cards can be used to gauge meta conditions.
Card Explanation
Blowtorch Saboteur As Odd Demon Hunter comprises 20% of the "meta slave" meta, this card enjoys high popularity, even in the mirror.
Mindbreaker Like Blowtorch Saboteur, this card targets Odd Demon Hunter, but it also affects one's own hero power. Thus, it is commonly ran in aggro lists that do not rely on its hero power, such as Galakrond Warrior and Token Druid.
Glacial Shard/Frozen Shadoweaver These two cards serve the same purpose: to slow down one of Odd Demon Hunter's key turns can lead to victory. But owing to their mana costs, it is usually ran only by Odd Demon Hunter for the mirror.
Secret EateChief Inspector Secret Mage is increasing in popularity. As long as that deck exists, so will these two tech cards.
Skulking Geist The meta is not lacking in crucial 1-cost spells. Quest Mage relies on 1-cost spells to finish its quest, Jade Druid will often concede after this card is played, and both Odd Warrior and various Warlock decks use 1-cost spells. A well-timed Geist can swing a victory. But owing to its high mana cost, this card is typically only played in control decks as it fits poorly in a mana curve.
SpellbreakeIronbeak Owl Silence is often directed at Voidcaller and Mech Paladin's buffed mechs, but owing to the decline in popularity of Voidcaller and the near disappearance of Mech Paladin, these two cards are less important.
Maiev Shadowsong Maiev's not merely another Spellbreaker. It can be used to neutralize a large minion for two turns and gain the tempo advantage. But when used to bypass taunts, yes, it is another Spellbreaker.
Acidic Swamp Ooze/Gluttonous Ooze For a while, weapons have been among the stronger types of cards in Hearthstone. Weapons tend to be stronger than minions and spells of the same cost. As the Wild format contains must-remove weapons, Oozes will always see play.
Dirty Rat Dirty Rat saw little play when Quest Mage was the premier OTK deck. But now that (Hemet) Mecha'thun Warlock has taken that crown, Dirty Rat is very effective tech against that.
Nerub'ar Weblord Nerub'ar Weblord is played in Even Shaman and Token Druid. As many key minions, such as highlander minions, rely on battlecries this card is effective against those. But its effect is a double-edged sword and thus it is limited to the aforementioned decks.

Decks:
1, Odd Demon Hunter
Following two rounds of severe nerfs, Odd Demon Hunter remains strong. Demon Hunter has many strong individual cards; despite the nerfs to Imprisoned Antaen, Aldrachi Warblades, Skull of Gul'dan, and Battlefiend, it retains Priestess of Fury and Warglaives of Azzinoth. However, the nerf to Battlefiend weakened Demon Hunter's early game. Demon Hunter was not destroyed by the nerfs; though the nerf to Altruis, the Outcast removed the class's ability to wipe the board in the middle to lategame, Priestess of Fury serves a similar purpose. However, Demon Hunter is not perfect; the deck has many weaknesses. Odd Demon Hunter is unable to deal with a large minion or multiple mid-sized minions. The deck is carried by the strength of its individual cards and its suitability to the meta. Its cheap silence in Consume Magic targets the format's powerful minions (Voidlord, Even Shaman's totems, Mech Paladin's mechs). Mana Burn limits the snowball ability of other aggro. Odd Demon Hunter's early minions are not strong, and do not seriously threaten opponents, but Priestess of Fury compensates for this. After the second round of nerfs, Vulpera Scoundrel saw increased play and is included in the most popular lists. The Pirate package has begun to be abandoned and replaced with Beaming Sidekick to strengthen early tempo. As for tech cards, there exist Blowtorch Saboteur, Glacial Shard, Frozen Shadoweaver, and Chief Inspector, with the former being the most popular for the mirror.

2, Galakrond Warrior
For a long time, Galakrond Warrior was built around a Pirate shell, with N'Zoth's First Mate allowing the deck to gain early tempo. This is why the deck is good in Wild but only mediocre in Standard. At times, builds that eschewed the Pirates for Eternium Rover and bombs also saw play. As highlander decks are stronger and thus more prevalent in Wild than Standard, the bomb package, despite being low in tempo in both formats, sees more play in Wild. Pirates retain a place in Galakrond Warrior, but the nerf to Bad Luck Albatross leads it to be ejected in favor of the bomb package to target control. Thus, Pirate bomb Galakrond Warrior is the optimal build, with the Pirates able to combat aggro while the bombs disrupt control. The deck is very popular and has few counters. How many bomb cards or tech cards to include remains a question. Possible tech cards include Blowtorch Saboteur, Maiev Shadowsong, Mindbreaker, and Spellbreaker. These tech cards are of two uses: to bypass taunts or to target even/odd decks.

3, Odd Paladin
Though Paladin's popularity is low, it is undeniable that data from Netease Hearthstone Box (tracking Chinese server) and HSReplay demonstrate that the class has the highest winrate. At the very least, it can be said that the class is not weak, and Odd Paladin is the strongest of its decks. Post-patch, the meta is more suitable for Odd Paladin as Odd Demon Hunter is now an even more favorable matchup. But, Odd Demon Hunter's popularity has not dropped and it continues to suppress Even Shaman and slow Warlocks (Odd Paladin is not unfavored versus slow Warlocks and the latter's decline in popularity means that Odd Paladin can afford to cut a tech card), indicating that Odd Demon Hunter has created an optimal meta condition for Odd Paladin. Though Odd Paladin's popularity is only so-so, it is already a very strong deck. Still, the deck retains its drawbacks. Despite suppression by Odd Demon Hunter, Even Shaman still sees play. The rise of Pirate Warrior also signals trouble for Odd Paladin. Odd Paladin's cards seem out of place in the explosive Wild format. Stable, unlikely to clog the hand, and smooth tempo all seem not to be characteristics a Wild deck should have. With regards to deckbuilding, there are many ways to build Odd Paladin. Fungalmancer and Faceless Corruptor compete for the 5-cost slot. Unidentified Maul and Rallying Blade vy for the 3-cost position. There are many differences in potential 1-drops. Brazen Zealot is unsuited for the aggro-heavy meta but the Pirate package is. Libram of Justice being changed to cost 5 mana renders it a candidate for inclusion, but it is at best a tactical soft removal that is poor at acquiring initiative. Moreover, with the nerfs to SN1P-SN4P and Darkest Hour Warlock, decks that can build tall and wide boards, Libram of Justice seems only better than nothing. For gaining tempo, Faceless Corruptor appears superior.

4, Hemet Mecha'thun Warlock
The nerf to Bloodbloom was a severe blow to Mecha'thun Warlock. The deck that should have received the torch from Quest Mage now was nowhere to be seen. Ever since the release of Kael'thas Sunstrider, a deck running Hemet, Jungle Hunter that relied on Dollmaster Dorian + Plot Twist + any cheap spell + Cataclysm to initiate the Mecha'thun combo had appeared. That deck could combo quickly, but it was slower than, and heavily unfavored against Quest Mage. After the Quest Mage nerf, Mecha'thun Warlock has begun to see more play; the Hemet version now fully displacing the quest version. Hemet Mecha'thun Warlock's speed and power have yet to reach the heights reached by Quest Mage, but it is still remarkable. A Hemet played on turn 6 is a countdown to the opponent's defeat. Though the deck is fast, it is heavily reliant on drawing Hemet. If Hemet is not drawn early, the deck can have trouble surviving: because it lacks Aranasi Broodmother for healing, this variant of Mecha'thun Warlock faces more pressure on its life total and is weaker to aggro.
Despite Kael'thas Sunstrider being able to replicate the effect of Bloodbloom, the nerf to the latter still has an effect on lists that run Emperor Thaurissan. Drakkari Enchanter is used to allow for Thaurissan to discount one's hand twice. Now, Bloodbloom is replaced with two cards, Kael'thas and Drakkari Enchanter instead of one, making for a clunkier deck.

4.1, Quest Mecha'thun Warlock
Though Quest Mecha'thun Warlock has almost completely disappeared, that does not mean it is unplayable. Its advantage is that it can sometimes work miracles after quest completion. The inclusion of Aranasi Broodmother means it can heal with Plot Twist, making it better against aggro than the Hemet variant.
It must be noted that Quest Mecha'thun Warlock should include a copy of Drakkari Enchanter to duplicate the effect of Thaurissan. Kael'thas Sunstrider is superfluous. It is important to be able to combo even without Dollmaster Dorian. Playing Dorian and Plot Twist with 7 mana can let the deck flood the board and survive for longer. Thus, Dorian allows the deck greater flexibility.

5, Even Totem Shaman
Ever since its inception at Saviors of Uldum (with the release of Splitting Axe), Even Totem Shaman has been recognized as a tier 1 deck. Through its subsequent widespread promotion during Descent of Dragons, the deck failed to attract the attention of game designers. A "forever god" (referring to a meme about Chinese League of Legends player Uzi) had been born! The arrival of Demon Hunter in Ashes of Outland quickly dispelled that myth. Even Totem Shaman needs to keep its totems alive to snowball, but Odd Demon Hunter clears totems with ease. Even if the totems are buffed with Totemic Might or Totemic Surge, Warglaives of Azzinoth or Consume Magic make short work of the Shaman board. It is natural for a deck to have counters, but when a heavily unfavored matchup, Odd Demon Hunter, comprises 20% of the meta, Even Totem Shaman will struggle. Moreover, the counters to Odd Demon Hunter such as Odd Warrior and the tech card Blowtorch Saboteur also pose problems for Even Totem Shaman.
Thus, even without being hit by the nerfs and with a weaker overall meta, Even Totem Shaman has fallen from the strongest deck to a weak deck. Deck strength is relative; it is impossible to discuss the strength of a deck apart from the meta it exists in.
The deck is hard to refine owing to its cratering popularity. Even Totem Shaman stagnates in the previous patch, and it is hard to find any strong individual cards to slot in.

AAEBAaoIBM30AqH4AvaKA4OnAw3TAb4G1g+yFPuqAqC2Ava9ApTvAvbwAo/7Ap2jA8+lA9qlAwA=

6, Odd Warrior
It can't be left unsaid that Odd Warrior is the champion to counter the meta. Even after the second round of nerfs, Odd Demon Hunter makes up 20% of the meta. As the meta is unsettled, other aggro decks (Pirate Warrior, Discard Warlock, even Murloc Paladin) ready to make trouble are trending up in popularity. Jade Druid and Cube Warlock are popular but not overly so, allowing Odd Warrior an opportunity.
With regards to deckbuilding, pre-patch Odd Warrior could afford to exclude Coldlight Oracle, as it did not improve the matchup against Quest Mage and worsened the ones against aggro. But in this meta, the milling murloc is a must, in more and more matchups.

AAEBAQcIhReS+AKe+AKD+wKggAPyqAOftwO4uQMLS6IE/g2pFYKtAsrnAo77Ap77ArP8AtmtA82+AwA=

7, Odd Rogue
The second round of nerfs has had wide-ranging consequences, the most important one being a meta shift to a more midrange and tempo-based environment. In this environment Odd Rogue thrives. Actually Odd Rogue is already suited to the meta and has definite strengths, but the meta shifts in the short time since the second round of nerfs do not show it. In the future Odd Rogue may make a comeback, but it won't be too big of a splash.
Owing to its low popularity, innovation has stagnated. The Magic Carpet package is a given, but the details of said package and other cards are uncertain. In this tempo-dependent meta, the authors recommend reinclusion of two copies of SI:7 Agent at the 3-cost spot, and two copies of Faceless Corruptor at the 5. As for other cards, it is up to your own preference.
AAEBAaIHCK8E+g7zEZG8AoHCAuvCAp74AqK3AwvUBd0ImxX70wLR4QKm7wKPlwO1nwP9pwO/rgOCsQMA

7.1, Odd Galakrond Rogue
The Galakrond package has been tried many times in Odd Rogue but its results are average at best, with its only purpose being to counter Odd Warrior. Otherwise it is useless.
AAEBAaIHCq8E+g7zEYUXkbwCgcIC0eECnvgCtZ8Dy8ADCtQFmxXrwgKm7wKPlwP1pwO5rgP+rgPOrwOCsQMA

8, Secret Mage
Secret Mage is an offensive deck that focuses on disrupting the opponent. It is not a brainless aggro deck that relies on direct damage to win. Nowadays in the Wild format there are two lines of thought for offensive strategies: one relies on its cards' abilities (weapons, burn etc.) to prevent the opponent from securing board presence while whittling away at their health with its own board until it can find the kill, the other floods the board and hopes the opponent cannot clear. Secret Mage's game plan is the former. It uses cheap Secrets and Secret-synergistic minions to disrupt the opponent's board or prevent them from clearing your own, finally finishing off the opponent with a combination of minion damage and burn. But there is a flaw common to this type of aggro-control, and that is that one's board is not large enough to resist board clears. Secret Mage does not have enough minions and it runs out of cards quickly, so it easily loses tempo if its minions are cleared. Galakrond Warrior, Odd Demon Hunter, Odd Rogue, and other similar decks have more minions than Secret Mage and will not face the same problem. But Secret Mage excels at disrupting the opponent and can easily win if the opponent cannot counter this strategy. Thus, Secret Mage shines against opponents who are unskilled or unfamiliar with Wild. Against better opponents, however, Secrets lose effectiveness.
Secret Mages will often opt to include the new Secret, Netherwind Portal. Otherwise, it is little changed.
AAEBAf0EBsABiQ66FqLTAr+kA8K4AwxxuwLsBfcN17YC67oCh70CwcECj9MCvqQD3akD9KsDAA==

9, Big Priest
Bad Luck Albatross was nerfed, Zephrys the Great is losing IQ, Open the Waygate was severely nerfed: to Big Priest, this is like three happinesses knocking at its door. As the pressure of the meta has decreased, it is even possible to exclude Convincing Infiltrator for greedier resurrect and Shadow Essence targets. Big Priest is inherently favored against aggro and control, but it is kept in check by combo. As combo decks are collapsing, Big Priest is seeing an unstoppable ascent.
AAEBAa0GBqirAuq/AujQAqCAA9aZA5ibAwz6EdHBAuXMAubMArTOAvDPAuPpApeHA4KUA5mbA5mpA/KsAwA=

10, Togwaggle Druid
The new expansion added Ysiel Windsinger, which, paired with Aviana, allows for the casting of many expensive spells. Of the combo druid decks, Togwaggle Druid is the most reliable. But, combo druid is still low in popularity, so when matched against druid, Jade Druid must be considered first.
AAEBAZICDF/pAewV4LsCoM0C/esCmu4C1pkD2p0D26UD9rAD6roDCVb+AYoOmNICntIChOYCv/ICj/YCjPsCAA==

11, Reno Quest Mage
Although Open the Waygate was heavily nerfed, it still has a definite power level. For Reno Quest Mage, it can finish the quest, but the extra turns required means it must survive longer. This is not a problem against control but rather aggro. The Bad Luck Albatross nerf is a good thing for Reno Quest Mage. Though it now takes longer to complete the quest, it is now also easier to survive before quest completion. Opponents will no longer disrupt Reno Quest Mage with Albatrosses. Both nerfs considered, Reno Quest Mage is weaker in absolute terms but stronger in relative terms. The deck is still a slow killer.
With the quest requirement increased from 6 to 8 spells, it is more important to consider tempo and quest completion. The Dragon package is recommended. Eschewing Dragons can grant more sources of spell generation but to survive it is recommended to run Arcane Breath and Malygos, Aspect of Magic. As the quest is harder to complete, Sorcerer's Apprentice is necessary to discount the mana cost of generated spells, such as those created by Banana Buffoon, Cobalt Spellkin, or Evocation.
AAEBAf0EHooBwAGrBMUEywTmBPcNwxaFF4K0Aum6Ati7AtDBApjEAs7vAtKJA9aZA5+bA/yjA5KkA7+kA7ulA/qsA/2sA4GxA5GxA7i2A+G2A/O3A8W4AwAA

12, Reno Priest
Following the revert of the nerf to Raza the Chained, Reno Priest walked the way of explosive OTK deck construction. But before the Open the Waygate nerf, Reno Priest was helpless against Quest Mage and, following a brief post-revert burst of popularity, almost disappeared from the meta.
Even after the second round of nerfs, Quest Mage and Reno Quest Mage can still pressure Reno Priest. The good news is that Quest Mage has its own weaknesses, the power level of the meta has dropped, and Bad Luck Albatross was nerfed too. Reno Priest finally has a chance to become a mainstream deck.
Though Reno Priest is decent at clearing the board and healing, it is not heavily favored against aggro owing to its weak board presence. After clearing a board, it cannot seize initiative but instead lets the opponent redevelop. When matched against Galakrond Warrior or Odd Demon Hunter, decks with burn, Reno Priest's surrendering of initiative renders it vulnerable to being killed by a well-timed Loatheb.
Highlander decks have a diverse pool of card choices, and Reno Priest is no different. Generally there are three different flavors: Dragon, OTK and N'Zoth. The OTK variant is the most popular.

13, Flamewaker Quest Mage
Though Open the Waygate was nerfed, this does not affect Flamewaker Quest Mage with a perfect draw in the slightest. When miracle mage has enough luck, Eloise (Sorcerer's Apprentice) paired with Evocation or Mana Cyclone can complete the quest in an instant. But excluding situations with uncanny luck, miracle mage now faces an significant increase of difficulty in completing the quest. Before the nerf, it was possible to easily finish the quest with Violet Spellwing and Licensed Adventurer. After the nerf, it is necessary to have Sorcerer's Apprentice to reliably complete the quest. Thus, the deck now fares much worse against aggro. It is now very reliant on drawing Evocation or Mana Cyclone combined with Apprentice. On the bright side, with a lucky draw, the nerf does not affect the deck at all. But without luck, the deck can now be beaten to death.

14, Cube Warlock
As Odd Demon Hunter firmly dominates the ladder, conditions are miserable for Cube Warlock. Previously, the deck's advantage was that it could counter the popular meta decks, but now it is heavily unfavored against Odd Demon Hunter and its ladder position is not ideal. Before the second round of nerfs, Cube Warlock could at least tech against Odd Demon Hunter with Sacrificial Pact and it could seem like both decks countered each other. But now Odd Demon Hunter can use Mana Burn to block key turns where Cube Warlock wants to play cards like Voidcaller, Skull of the Man'ari, or Carnivorous Cube. Consume Magic can deal with cards like Voidlord. As Cube Warlock lacks healing, the matchup is now very one-sided. But the meta is volatile, and if Odd Demon Hunter drops in popularity, Cube Warlock will shoot back.
Despite the nerf to Bad Luck Albatross, it is still a viable inclusion in Cube Warlock, but its popularity has dropped as players have disenchanted the card, and it is predicted that the card will not regain its popularity. As for Cube Egg Warlock that relies on Nerubian Egg to counter board flood, that strategy is also unpopular. Nerubian Egg can help gain tempo, but it does not protect the warlock's life total. Differing from the popular Prince Taldaram and Egg build on the Chinese server, foreign servers favor running two copies of Dark Skies for a more controlling style. Dark Skies can clear the opponent's board and limit incoming damage. Perhaps control Cube Warlock is the best suited for the meta.

15, Jade Druid
At the end of Descent of Dragons, Jade Druid received Kael'thas Sunstrider, allowing for explosive midgame turns. Even if Kael'thas was drawn later, it could reasonably solve the issue of the difficulty of playing Ultimate Infestation. But following the second round of nerfs, Kael'thas' mana cost was increased by one. This may seem minor, but as druid lacks AOE, giving the opponent another turn can be hard to bear. In the later stages of the game, Kael'thas is also more awkward to play. It is now impossible to play Kael'thas and combo with a 3 mana and a 1 mana spell. If one insists on playing him, it is recommended to also run Bogbeam.
Though the Kael'thas nerf weakens Jade Druid's midgame tempo, the deck still has its use. Current aggro decks are unable to deal with Jade Druid's Spreading Plague and high armor gain. Against Hemet Mecha'thun Warlock, Jade Druid's mortal enemy, it is possible, but unlikely, to mill a combo piece with Naturalize.
Variants that have appeared include dragon, Kael'thas, and King Phaoris. No variant has proven superior to the rest.

16, Pirate Aggro Druid
No matter how the meta changes, this deck's gameplan never deviates: hard mulligan for Embiggen, and win from there....
Frenzied Felwing was nerfed and is no longer ideal. Other card choices are little changed. As Odd Demon Hunter is running rampant, consider running Mindbreaker, and excluding cards with two (or less) health.

17, Kingsbane Pirate Rogue
The popularity brought by the revert of the Raiding Party nerf has scattered to the winds. The deck now enjoys low, but stable popularity. Kingsbane Pirate Rogue is not weak. Ship's Cannon is strong against aggro, Southsea Captain buffs the board, and Fal'dorei Strider can develop presence quickly. All can tilt victory in one's favor. The deck has no hard counters but its real enemy is itself. It relies on luck, whether that be for Ship's Cannon pings, drawing Kingsbane, or drawing Fal'dorei spiders.
Secrets are worthy of inclusion.

18, Pirate Warrior
The addition of Corsair Cache is truly a cache of riches for Pirate Warrior. For this deck, Corsair Cache is clearly better than Forge of Souls. Even if Corsair Cache were 3 mana, it has the same weapon-drawing effect as Forge of Souls plus Upgrade!, but in one card instead of two. The choice of weapons is typically two copies of Wrenchcalibur and Ancharrr, the latter being core and the former being good tech against highlander strategies or just for more face damage. Against aggro, Pirate Warrior has long been on the upper echelon. N'Zoth's First Mate, Ship's Cannon, and Skybarge can crush opponents. As Corsair Cache has increased the deck's reliability, in the future meta, the deck is not lacking in potential and may become popular.

19, Reno Warlock
As Quest Mage and Bad Luck Albatross have been nerfed, Reno decks will return to the sight of the playerbase. However, Reno Warlock is still in a state of chaos and it needs more time to be refined. The current list runs half of the cards of Cube Warlock in addition to Reno Jackson for healing. Compared to Cube Warlock, this version of Reno Warlock fares better versus aggro. Besides, Reno Malygos Warlock also exists to some extent. Reno Warlock needs some more time to ferment before it can be revived.

20, Prismatic Lens Murloc Paladin
Following the meta changes and releases of new cards, Murlocs are now more numerous and well-rounded. Wild Prismatic Lens Murloc Paladin first appeared in Uldum and it cycled as quickly as a combo deck, but it was not strong. It was countered by SN1P-SN4P Warlock and Secret Mage, but now the latter no longer dominates and control warlocks have declined in popularity. As a result, relying on Prismatic Lens to win is now possible. Where the Wild deck differs from its Standard cousin is that the aggro decks in Wild are stronger, so it cannot afford to falter in tempo before Prismatic Lens is played. The good thing is that Murloc Paladin has strong, overstatted early minions with snowball potential. If an opponent is unable to clear or contest the early board, they will be dispatched by the Murloc Paladin by turn 4 or 5.

20.1, Divine Favor Murloc Paladin
Excluding Prismatic Lens in favor of Hand of A'dal, Crystology, and Divine Favor is also a viable strategy. On the whole, both builds of Murloc Paladin have shown sprouts of popularity, but whether they can put down deeper roots remains to be seen.

21, Mech Handbuff Paladin
Mech Handbuff Paladin invariably loses to other aggro, whether it is Even Shaman, Odd Paladin, Odd Demon Hunter, Pirate Warrior, Discard Warlock, or Murloc Paladin. However, it has shown success for short periods of time, and its low crafting cost makes it suitable for newer players. Mech Handbuff Paladin is unsuited for the current meta. But if one insists on playing it, it is not bad as a training tool on a budget.

22, Reno Secret Mage
For a long time, Reno Secret Mage failed to stand out because it was not fast enough to compete with Quest Mage. After the Quest Mage nerf, Reno Secret Mage is now favored against other aggro decks, and its popularity has rebounded some.
In terms of deckbuilding, Reno Secret Mage has a plethora of options. There are two different ways of building the deck: to make it more like Secret Mage, or more like Reno Mage. Adding more low-cost cards can gain tempo, with the drawback of running out of resources more quickly. Adding more high-cost cards mitigates that problem, at the risk of having clunky early hands.

23, Reno Hunter
In the quest to counter Odd Demon Hunter, players gradually uncovered Reno Hunter. The deck has two bad matchups: Cube Warlock and Quest Mage. The current meta has decreased the strength and popularity of those counters, and Reno Hunter has been gradually strengthened. Reno Hunter has experienced popularity at high legend, and may serve as a fuse to change the meta. Reno Hunter's cards have a high chance of not curving out, but none of its curve plays are weak. If it can curve out, then it will be strong.
AAEBAR8ehwTJBJcI9w36DsMW+LECncwC080ChtMC4eMCoIADoIUDtpwD/KMD5KQDpqUDiq0Di60Djq0D+68D/K8D/q8Dh7ADkbED2LIDn7cDr7cDg7kD/7oDAAA=

24, Even Warlock
Even Warlock's targeting of Odd Demon Hunter has seen success. Mountain and Molten Giants pose a headache for Illidan. Even Warlock has always feared the Quest Mage matchup, with Ray of Frost stalling until quest completion. But the recent nerfs now make Even Warlock favored, as it can now pressure the Quest Mage's life total or build a wall of taunts. In other matchups, Even Warlock is not heavily disfavored either. It is now more suited for the current meta, but its popularity hovers around zero. The release of this meta report may make a difference.
In terms of deck construction, whether it is full highlander, partial highlander, or traditional even, all variants have their merits. But in terms of deck strength, traditional even and partial highlander are recommended. Owing to the prevalence of Odd Demon Hunter, it is not recommended to run Voidcaller and Enhanced Dreadlord, but rather the traditional Vulgar Homunculus and Hooked Reaver.

25, Reno N'Zoth/Luna's Pocket Galaxy Mage
Despite Reno Mage not being extremely strong, the nerfs to Quest Mage and Bad Luck Albatross have unleashed Reno decks, with Reno Mage showing a definite rise in play owing to its committed playerbase. Whether it is the N'Zoth or Luna's Pocket Galaxy variant, the deck has definite strength. The overall decline in OTK decks is a major factor in the reappearance of slower decks. In future, other slow decks may also reappear.
AAEBAf0EHk2KAcAByQOrBJYFuQ33Df4N+g7DFoUX4KwC6boC2LsC38QC08UClscCoM4Cm9MCw+oCoIADoaED/KMDkqQDv6QD7K8DkbEDjLYDjbsDAAA=

26, Discard Zoo Warlock
The evolution of Discard Zoo Warlock has led to the deck becoming another form of zoo. The discard cards are overstatted; Fist of Jaraxxus and Silverware Golem also secure tempo. Hand of Gul'dan allows for refill while the Sacrificial Pact nerf improve the matchups against warlock and highlander. In all, the deck is decently popular, but its random elements repel some players. Unlike quest mage that needs a good draw, Discard Zoo Warlock does not need to get lucky but rather not get unlucky to avoid snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Darkglare is a potential inclusion. Discard Warlock is now viable; the pieces of the puzzle have been assembled and Shenron can be summoned.

27, Mecha'thun/Linecracker Druid
Refinement has long progressed Linecracker Druid beyond a meme. The deck is similar to Jade Druid. Mecha'thun is a must, as it can bring victory even if one does not acquire 1000 armor. The increased prevalence of Skulking Geist in the meta bleakens the outlook for this deck.
