Matched Betting Extra Place Horse Racing - January 21 Profits - £4,707 on top of Full Time Job

Hi all,
I thought I would share my profits for Matched Betting Extra Place Horse Racing for Jan 21. January 2021 has turned into my best month of Matched Betting since I started way back in Summer 2018. This months profits are roughly £4,707. A life changing figure for many and a great figure seeing this is achievable on top of a full time job. Matched Betting is the only decent side hustle I have actually found, compared to doing hundreds of boring online surveys...yuck! (Unless you are a good business person / have 5 lodgers / lots of family money etc.) To see some of my other Matched Betting profits you visit my site: https://cashontheside.co.uk/
I will be investing some of my profits this month in ETF/Shares and putting into house improvements like a new drive way. In addition with Cheltenham horse festival coming up in March, I will be increasing my bank to cover liabilities.
The bulk of my profits came from Extra Place racing, large underlayed winners and BOG (best offer garuntee). Variance was certainly on my side this month and I must have had at least 10 large winners which won upwards of £1600 pounds per bet. As I underlay my bets I made more profit than If I had fully layed of the bets. About 5% of these profits came from low risk casino. After you have completed all welcome offers...in Matched Betting. Ep's become a gold mine...and I truly recommend them to anyone.
Some more of my bets this month illustrating underlayed bets and ep:

For those who are starting out on their Match Betting journey in 2021 these sort of figures are achievable to you once you have experience….unfortunately this will not come overnight! I do put a lot of time into it..between 2-5 hours a day, 7 days a week sometimes. For the average person you could earn at least £500 a month.

To those with a little more experience who want to learn about Matched Betting Extra Places you can visit my guide here Extra Place Match Betting tips here or I have copied and pasted it all below.
For those with Matched Betting Experience - my guide and tips to Extra Places:
What is Extra Place Matched Betting?
Extra Places can be a very lucrative technique to learn. Extra Places are available for us to do pretty much every day, increasing the appeal. Extra Place Offers are available to all customers. This means that even if you get gubbed with a bookmaker, in most cases, you can still make money with them by Matched Betting on their Extra Place Offers.
Extra Places are considered an advanced reload offer, as they not risk-free. However once you have gained some experience on more basic horse racing offers, you can start to take advantage of the lucrative profits available. It may sound complicated but as soon as it ‘clicks’, it becomes simple. Essentially we are taking advantage of the bookies and exchanges paying out if the horse you have backed comes a certain ‘place’ in a race e.g. 4th.
Extra Places combined with additional offers such as BOG (Best Offer Guarantee) can mean additional profits. For example, you back a horse at odds of 15 and then the starting odds move up to 23. If that horse wins you win an extra x8 on your bet. You can see some real life scenarios I found of Extra Place combined with BOG below. Depending on the size of the underlay, profits below would range up to £3,000+

What is a ‘place’ in horse racing?

Quite simply a ‘place’ is the position the horse finishes a race in. For example if a horse wins a race it comes 1st, if a horse comes 2nd its 2nd. In some races with a large number of horses some bookies will pay out if a horse finishes the race in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th position. Horse Racing festivals such as Cheltenham or Ascot are particularly well known for this.

What is an ‘Extra Place’ in horse racing?

Now we’ve understood what a place is in horse racing you may have probably already guessed what an ‘extra place’ is going to be! An ‘extra place’ is where the bookies add one (or more) additional places to their standard place classification on a particular race. For example they may offer to ‘pay 7 places on a race’ instead of the standard 3 places. The ‘extra place’ in this instance cover 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th.
What are my Extra Place top tips?
  1. Some of my biggest profits have come from big underlayed winners and BOG. I typically underlay most of my bets by about 20% sometimes more. If you are starting out I would underlay on the place only by about 10% to play it safe until you learn more.
  2. Don’t bet on more places than a bookmaker is offering. E.g. If the bookmaker is offering 4 places don’t bet on more than that.
  3. Whilst your learning, take horses on implied odds of at least 12 or more on a match of 80%+.
  4. Look to keep qualifying losses down. E.g. for £100 profit, £5 ql.
  5. Please note, the best odds are typically found between 10 minutes up and to race time. You have to be quick on your ‘toes’…learn to walk before you run etc. Start out on easy horse racing officers before doing extra places.
  6. You will need a bank of at least £1000+ for your exchanges, ideally more. The more you have the more of the field you can cover. You can do EP with several hundred in your exchange but you won’t be able to make bigger profits.
  7. Be consistent, don’t take risks, don’t chase your losses and learn from matched betting extra place forums.
  8. Keep the Odds Monkey up throughout the day...and check for good matches.
  9. Use Bookies Boosts to increase your odds and matches.
  10. Do not give in to your fear of missing out on offers…Tomorrow is another day.
  11. Have at least a dual monitoscreen setup. It is important to be able to see exchange, books and calcs.
How do I find Extra Places offers?
I use the the Odds Monkey Extra Place Matcher to find the best opportunities for profit. The Matcher is explained in the below video.

I am also a regular visitor of the active Odds Monkey community forums. Should I buy: Physical Silver? Call Options? Both? A Brief Overview and Silver Squeeze Strategy

Should I buy: Physical Silver? Call Options? Both? A Brief Overview and Silver Squeeze Strategy
I’ve seen a lot of discussion here of what is the best way to gain exposure to the silver squeeze, and a lot of general confusion from people. Hoping to clear somethings up.

Physical Silver is the Best Choice

Why? Because YOU own it! Simple as that. If shit hits the fan tomorrow (e.g. internet crashes, electric grid goes down, etc.), you have REAL money in your pocket. You can do whatever you want with it, and don't have to rely on a third-party to delivemake good on their promise (do you trust banks?). Additionally, physical silver is finite, and more can not be created out of thin air (as is the case with paper silver).
Ok, but what if I can't buy silver right now? Aren't all the bullion dealers sold out? What can I do in the meantime while they restock!?
Fear not. Not only is there another way for you to gain exposure to the great silver squeeze, but it actually gives YOU (the retail investor) greater power in the market against the big banks. What is this great power I speak of? Why, they are call options my son.

Call Options: Power to the People!

If you're not familiar with call options, I suggest you read up on them more. I won't go into great detail, but a call option gives you the right (but not the obligation) to purchase 100 shares of an underlying asset for a specific price at some point in the future.
As an example, iShares Silver Trust ($SLV) might cost $25 per share. While a call option to buy SLV may cost $100. So if you had $100 to play around with you could buy 4 shares of SLV outright, or you could buy an option which would grant you control of 100 shares. Make sense? Now you can see why call options enable retail investors like you and me to actually have an even playing field against the big banks.

What has the Biggest Impact on Price? Call Options!

As mentioned, I think owning physical silver is by far the best method. However, call options have the greatest impact on the price of silver. Why?
Meet the Gamma-Squeeze.
The gamma-squeeze is not something new, but historically it has not been feasible for retail investors to accomplish due to the high costs associated with trading options. Around 2019 brokers started offering commission free options, which changed the game.
A gamma-squeeze occurs when a market maker hedges options he just sold you.

What's a Market Maker? He's my Bookie!

When you buy an option, you are most likely buying it from a market maker who takes the opposite side of your trade. The easiest way to think of a market maker is to compare them to a bookie (whether it be Draftkings, or the shady guy named Vinny at your local dive bar).
If you bet $100 on the Kansas City Chiefs to win the Superbowl, your bookie takes the opposite end of that bet (i.e. he makes money if the Chiefs lose). However, your bookie likely doesn't care one way or the other who wins the Superbowl, because if he did care he'd be a gambler, not a bookie. His goal is to collect an even amount of bets on both teams, which offset each other, and then just take a fee for his services. THIS IS WHAT MARKET MAKERS DO!
However, when you buy a call option (which gives you the right to buy 100 shares of the underlying) the bookie market maker must go out and buy some amount of shares to offset his risk of prices increasing. How does the market maker know how many shares he needs to buy to offset his risk? Enter delta.

Delta - Not the Airline

Delta, gamma, what is this guy talking about? I know they might sound a little confusing, but they're known as the Greeks (not the fun type that own diners and drink ouzo, but the mathematical type that can make you money).
All you need to know is that delta let's the market maker know how many shares he needs to purchase to hedge his position (aka delta hedging). You can look up the delta of a particular option on an options chain.
So if you buy a call option with a delta of 0.5, the market maker must go out an buy 50 shares of the underlying just to reduce his risk (100 shares per contract x 0.5 delta = 50 shares to hedge).
You are in essence, forcing the market maker to purchase, which in turn drives up the demand for shares, increasing price. This also causes the delta to increase in value, and creates a vicious feedback loop where price keeps increasing exponentially upwards. 🚀

Misconception of Citadel Owning SLV

You've probably seen posts claiming Citadel owns SLV and is pushing it on WallStreetBets in order to trick people. In fact, there's one such post here claiming Citadel is the 5th largest owner of SLV and stands to profit if you buy it.
The misconception is that people don't realize Citadel is a market maker. In fact, they are the largest market maker in options in the U.S. Most of these people spreading FUD don't even know what a market maker is... but YOU do!
If Citadel sells call options, it buys shares of SLV to hedge its risk. That way it doesn't matter if SLV goes up or down, they make money from the bid/ask spreads charged.
In fact, if SLV was squeezed, you could expect to see Citadel's SLV holdings increase in order to hedge the call options they sold. This is the gamma-squeeze, its when your enemy (the financial institutions) actually become your ally, because of their need to hedge.

Why SLV? Isn't Paper Silver Fake? Aren't We Just Playing Their Game?

I agree that paper silver is not the best, and the iShares Silver Trust can lie (and probably has) about the amount of actual silver in their vaults. However, all shares issued by the trust MUST be backed by physical silver (per their prospectus).
If the demand for $SLV was well above normal levels, it is likely the Trust couldn't keep up the charade for too long, and would have to ultimately go out on to the market and purchase at least some portion of that physical silver, thus driving up prices.
While not ideal for the individual holder and investor when compared to the benefits of physical silver, the iShares Silver Trust's ($SLV) benefits lie in its ability to offer retail speculators increased leverage in the form of call option contracts.
So, in conclusion, my opinion is to:

Buy and Hold Physical Silver. Trade $SLV.

My take on unpopular cards to make then viable

My take on unpopular cards to make then viable

Hello Reddit,

LOR is an amazing game and I love the diversity and all the cards I can use to create my decks. However, not all cards are created equally and some I believe could use some love.
In this post I will try to share some of my personal ideas for tweaks certain cards could receive that in my opinion would increase their popularity. Please feel free to share your opinion on the comments below.
_____________________________________

RULES:

  • No new mechanics.
  • No new cards will be summoned or created by the existing cards.
  • All changes will be thematic.
  • Changes are not aiming in making the cards overpowered. (If they do, that was my mistake)
_____________________________________

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Make existing unpopular cards add something to existing archetypes or become build-around for new decks.
  2. Add to the lore and world of runeterra.
  3. Keep the cards thematically the same.
_____________________________________

VANGUARD LOOKOUT
. WHY THIS CARD?
Vanguard as a 1|4 has nothing to offer, and even with the Elite tag it does not even make the cut on Elite decks. Cannot block fearsome and have to compete with several other more useful 2 drops.

. CHANGELOG:
New effect:
I can block units with Elusive. (Same effect from Sharpsight therefore no coding needed)

New keyword:
Tough

Stat changes:
Health from 4 to 3

. EXPECTATIONS:
With those changes now Vanguard can offer something unique, being able to block Elusives in exchange of tempo and aggression this card can be a good option against metas where Zoe, Teemo or other Elusive units are present.
Having Tough also allows Vanguard to block MF/Scouts, Lucian and Zed. Having Vanguard Lookout in your deck can help you deal with aggression until your midgame or lategame plan comes online.

. FLAVOUR:
If we stablish that a unit with "Sharpsight" can block Elusives, and the Vanguard is a literally a lookout. We can assume that he from a advantage point could see Elusive units coming to sneak in Demacia.
If we compare Vanguard with his Freljord counterpart Avarosan Sentry, they thematically serve the same purpose, identify threats coming and help hold them off.
In the case of the Sentry, we can assume that he will attack the incoming threat with all he have, even if it cost his life, and on his drying breath he will alert the village. This is translated in-game as him having 2 attack and draw you a card when he dies, that card being the help that he called for.
In Vanguard's case, he would be the shield that stand between the enemies of Demacia and his homeland. He will hold them off until help comes. That can be translated on my new version as him not letting any Elusive units sneak in Demacia, and survive long enough (Until turn 4 or 5) so heroes like Garen, Jarvan, Galio, Lux comes to his aid.

ARENA BOOKIE
. WHY THIS CARD?
Arena Bookie should be in the core of the Arena Themed (Draven) decks, and I get the idea that if you have Draven's Axe, he would be replenishing your hand, which for an aggro deck is amazing.
But that is never the case, and even if you try to use him like that you would have to wait until you have Axes to start using him, which goes contrary to what you need on an aggro deck.

. CHANGELOG:
New effect:
Discard the HIGHEST cost card instead of the LOWEST. Also draws an additional card if the discarded card cost 6+.

Stat changes:
Attack from 2 to 0.
Cost from 2 to 1.

. EXPECTATIONS:
In deck building you have to always plan around not drawing your combo pieces, and as an aggro player, this is even more important because you need to get your game plan going before your opponent out-value you.
Therefore, the plan is to make Arena Bookie your card that will help you get consistent with your aggro plan. Is okay if you want to end the match with Decimates or Farron, but those cards means nothing if you cannot play your early units.
With Arena Bookie you can have a solid turn 1 or 2 play that will make sure draw your combo pieces before turn 4 and start playing into your win condition. You can always sack him as a blocker if you are getting into late game and don't need the draw anymore.
This card can also help Noxus to add more greedy cards to their aggro playstyle, since you can make sure you will draw the cards you want, when you want them.

. FLAVOUR:
Assuming this is Noxus Arena's best or only bookmaker, "Bookie" (Let's call him that) knows how to set matches to get the best outcome for him and his associates.
Therefore, Bookie knows who to put in and when to put them in the arena to get what he wants. He knows that if he throws Draven against a House Spider, no one will pay to see that. People want to see small fries fighting for their lives, before the star can come in and steal the show.

CAUGHT IN THE COLD
. WHY THIS CARD?
Caught in the cold is the ugly sister of the Frostbite family, not even Ashe decks wants it. It came with Sejuani's support cards and on paper should do what Sejuani does. The problem is that Sejuani's effect comes with Sejuani's body and is burst speed.
This card always had some potential, but being slow and costing 2 mana could brick several hands. Also, it requires a lot of commitment and pro-activity, which are two huge downsides in a game like LOR.

. CHANGELOG:
New effect:
The effect occurs on the NEXT ROUND START, instead of on the same turn that is played.

Stat changes:
Cost from 2 to 1.

. EXPECTATIONS:
The idea of this change is to add another layer of complexity to the match. Costing so little, but having the effect come on the next turn could create very interesting plays.
Your opponent have a good open attack next turn? You can finish your round by playing caught in the cold and de-valuing your opponent's open attack. Imagine, you play Caught in the Cold in the end of your turn 5, now your opponent needs to develop into the attack, you Sejuani his best unit, and now your opponent have no good attacks.
You can also use offensively, let's say your opponent attacked this turn and have a pretty good blocker, maybe he is playing a deck with good slow/development punishers. You play caught in the cold and suddenly you made it harder for your opponent to force you to develop into his responses.
You can also use Caught in the cold to force your opponent to spend more mana in one turn, maybe depleting his spell mana, and giving you mana advantage on the next turn.

. FLAVOUR:
Caught in the cold sound like something sudden or unexpected, yet is a slow spell in a sea of burst frostbite spells. With this changes, although still a slow spell it cannot be countered on the turn the effect occurs, because during the Round Start phase no one can play cards.
Can be seen as the enemy not paying attention to the signs of a snowstorm or the terrain and when combat is near, that opponent now is caught in the cold, paying for his inaction.
Caught in the cold would be the slowest spell in the game, yet you would need to play around it. You don't want to commit all your mana now, just so your opponent can sneak this card at the end of the turn and you will have to deal with the consequences later.

OVERGROWN SNAPVINE
. WHY THIS CARD?
I remember when this card was announced and not just me, but a lot of players were excited to build decks around this madness. Even meme decks using this card are bad, the concept is fun and exciting but the cost of the card makes it impossible to get the plan rolling before you lose the game.
And even if you manage to make your Snapvines big by buffing it, they can be blocked and do not have any good keywords to give those stats value, and this makes the card even more sad.

. CHANGELOG:
New effect:
The first half is the same, but now also GRANT +1|+0 to Overgrown Snapvines EVERYWHERE.

New keyword:
Fearsome

Stat changes:
Cost from 7 to 3.
Attack 5 to 1.

. EXPECTATIONS:
People want to build decks around Snapvine and I believe my changes will enable that. I wanted to give Snapvine a keyword that would allow it to close games, as well as a payout for the deck building cost.
By making Snapvine a 3 cost 1|3 it will begin the game as a very overpriced unit. But if you manage to nurture it, it can win you the game. It would be an engaging mechanic, similar to how Fiora or TF adds to the game, by making you have to deal with their win-con.
You as the Snapvine player, would have to make sure you can protect and spawn more Snapvines than your opponent can kill. You opponent would in other hand try to think of a way to kill all your Snapvines in one blow.
I don't even need to give you deck ideas, cause I think you are already thinking on how to make the most disgusting Snapvine possible.
(PZ to make burst Snapvines? Running Snapvines on your Fearsome/Mistwraith deck as a second win-con? Ditching TWE and getting a new color? Maybe Ionia for denying the opponent Ruination, or their Deny when you go for Atrocity?)

. FLAVOUR:
Snapvine just like all other plants, it must grow (is on their name) they actually overgrow.. They will keep growing and if you don't do something about it, they will most likely become unstoppable.
Is sad that something with grow on their name never had a scaling factor, but "Flower Child" and "Fae Bladetwirler" do.
Also, if you look at Snapvine artwork, it screams fearsome, specially if it grows to become the size of a Tank.

CITYBREAKER
. WHY THIS CARD?
Swain is a pretty popular champion, and a lot of players love to find different ways to build Swain decks. But none of them use one of the core supporting card. As a 4 cost 0|5 card Citybreaker have nothing to offer.
If by turn 4 you are not close to leveling Swain, 1 damage per turn is not what you need. If you are close to leveling Swain by Turn 4, you don't need Citybreaker, you are most likely winning without it.
Specially on an archetype with so many great reactive spells, playing this card will only set you behind. The worst part is that for a card with 5 health, you rarely want to block units with it.
Cause you need to stick this card into your board for several turns to make it worth the mana cost.

. CHANGELOG:
New keyword:
Tough

Stat changes:
Cost from 4 to 2.
Health from 5 to 2.

. EXPECTATIONS:
With 4 mana this card was getting into the game way too late to be relevant. My change aims to make this card a solid Turn 2 or Turn 3 play.
For a 2 mana card, if you manage to keep it alive until turn 5 and maybe get a valuable block before it dies, if did more than enough.
If your opponent is playing a slow deck or have no response for it, it can become an actual good pressure tool. Forcing a response for a 2 cost card is really good for a deck that struggles to protect Leviathan and Swain.
With Tough, Citybreaker can survive Avalanche and keep chipping away the opponent's Nexus. Because is so light in mana cost now, it can also be a budget Leviathan if you have a flipped Swain in your hand on turn 7.

. FLAVOUR:
Citybreaker should be a siege weapon, that are deployed in mass and their objective is to pressure the opponent to break act, while Swain retains his reactive position and prepare a response.
By making it an early unit, Citybreaker makes your opponent have to act while low on resources. And if they fail to act, Swain can level up way sooner than they expect.
Another interesting point is that Citybreakers are shown to be stronger in numbers and sure enough, for 6 mana you can get the same effect as Leviathan, if you manage to draw all 3.

Comic book recommendations for devils who don't read good

Comic book recommendations for devils who don't read good
Evening gents. Looking for some comic book & graphic novel recommendations. I used to follow mainline and indie comics religiously but in recent years just don't have the time anymore to keep up. Piling up a whole bunch of books to follow until you could look forward to a new issue of something almost every week was one of my favorite things to do. Have at it, toss me anything that you've found interesting, memorable, something that really stuck with you, something that you still have saved on some external hard drive years after you finished reading it.
For anyone in the same boat I'll offer up four of my personal favorites, which I think are also particularly accessible and enjoyable for people who aren't big into comics and are looking for somewhere to start.

PUNISHER: MAX (Garth Ennis; #'s 1-60)
The hands down definitive portrayal of everybody’s favorite fictional Marine, Frank Castle aka The Punisher. Brutally violent and highly grounded. No superpowers, no city busting battles, no heroes in capes giving speeches. Just Frank quietly setting up a camera in an abandoned basement to record himself burning a human trafficker alive, and sending the tape back to Eastern Europe as a warning. Set in the mid-2000’s, Frank is in his 50s here and has aged in real time since serving in Vietnam. Through various twists and turns he comes into conflict with a circus of real-world opposition including Mafia, IRA, CIA double agents, sex trafficking cartels, ex-Soviet generals, corrupt white-collar CEOs, and even Delta Force. Highly recommend starting with the PUNISHER: BORN prequel miniseries which tells the events of Frank’s Vietnam tour and poses a harsh question of whether his family’s death after he came home truly was what changed him into the Punisher, or if he always had that inner darkness to be an inhuman mass killer inside him all along. The series really digs into what makes Frank tick, and Ennis does a great job of making you unsure whether he is a hero, villain, or simply a force of nature beyond any kind of moral judgment.

HITMAN (Garth Ennis; #'s 1-60)
An extremely entertaining obscure series with a mix of crime drama, over the top action, and absurd humor. Set in the DC universe, the series follows Tommy Monaghan, a wisecracking shit talking Marine veteran of the Gulf War who comes home to his dead-end blue-collar Irish neighborhood in Gotham City. Along with his best friend he served with, and a memorable group of new buddies, Tommy decides to set up a mercenary-for-hire business taking on the most dangerous jobs nobody else will touch: gang dons, serial killers, superpowered D-list villains, and all the other flimflam that are beneath the attention span of the capes. Luckily as a consequence of some past comic-booky events, Tommy possesses limited telepathy and short-range X-ray vision, making him virtually unparalleled in a gun fight despite being otherwise physically normal. A core theme of the series is brotherhood: the bonds you make with those who become your adoptive family, the lengths you will go to avenge them, and ultimately how much you will sacrifice for them when the chips are down.

MOON KNIGHT (Jeff Lemire; 2016-17, #'s 1-14)
Marc Spector is a former Marine, world-traveling adventurer, A-list Hollywood actor, and superhero vigilante empowered by Khonshu the Egyptian moon god. Or he might just be an utter lunatic locked away in an insane asylum and lost in his own delusions. This series is a great intro to Moon Knight as Lemire understands that the mental side of the character is what’s truly compelling. In terms of skills and background Moon Knight is just a discount Batman (he throws moon-shaped batarangs for fuck’s sake), but what makes him interesting is his tenuous grasp on reality. Is he truly under a psychic mindfuck attack by rival Egyptian gods trying to break his link with Khonshu, and take over the world? Or did he just miss his last dose of antipsychotics? Does it even matter which one is real? Does he even really care, in the end?

UBER / UBER: INVASION (Kieron Gillen; ongoing)
A bloody, over-the-top alternate history of WW2 told as military sci-fi. In the Uber universe, humanity discovers a rare compound of possibly extraterrestrial origin that generates incredible superhuman powers in a tiny percentage of the population with genetic compatibility. The heavier the dose, the smaller the population pool that can survive it – but also the greater the power. The Nazis, Allies, Soviets, and Japanese enter a feverish human arms race, leading to a compelling fictional order of battle in which the major WWII powers, through trial and error, quickly realize the various soldier powersets they can create and how each archetype’s strengths and weaknesses balance against others. For example, the Nazis are the first to create Battleship-class soldiers, who are near-indestructible Homelander types that can annihilate entire battalions in the blink of an eye. The Allies realize the only weakness of the Battleships is their need for direct line-of-sight to activate their powers, and lack of superhuman reaction speed. In desperation, the US develops the Zephyr-class: soldiers who are physically normal but capable of moving in extreme bullet-time at the cost of lethal metabolic burnout. With no other option as the Nazis invade the US mainland, the Zephyrs are sent on one-way suicide missions with diamond-edged knives to assassinate the Battleships through literal death by a million cuts. Many other creative military scenarios play out through the series as the opposing sides constantly roll out new soldier types and are forced to continuously innovate against the enemy’s tactical adaptations. Both the UBER and UBER: INVASION series are technically unfinished and on indefinite hiatus (aka will never be completed) due to funding issues, but the existing body of work is rock solid.

Reminder to the community ...

to keep on pushing.
Many people visit this sub and post after a bad loss. I’ve been there ... we all have. What’s going to happen is after 5-10-20-50 days of not gambling you’re going to feel so accomplished that you’ll have the urge to reward yourself by playing a few hands or betting a couple bucks (or thousands) on the Super Bowl. You need to remind yourself why you are here.
Take control of your future and your finances. When you are gambling the difference between $1 and $1000 means nothing as you are so numb to monetary value. “What’s another $1000 bet considering I have already lost 40 times that?” is something I would say to myself before unloading on another game. I am not a financial advisor, but I have experience in economics, finance, and life and feel I can provide some insight as a recovering addict.
My situation is a bit different so I will give some insight and feel it’s best to explain my situation.
I’m 25 years old and live at home (COVID). I have lived on my own in the Big Apple and have seen both sides of life. One where your parents cover everything and one where you have daily and monthly expenses like rent, utilities, and food. Currently I’m lucky enough where I don’t have expenses, but being the dumbass I was, my expense was paying the bookie. I know many people don’t have the same luxury as I, but it doesn’t mean you can’t still save. I’ve given up the last 2 years of saving and instead gave into this disease.
1) first thing first, personal ban yourself from casinos or online sites. My vice was sports and I had a chat with my bookie and let him know I was struggling. We were able to settle the debt for about half of what I owed. Just ask, it can’t hurt.
2) before you can save you need to pay off whatever outstanding debt you have. Credit cards and fees will continue to build. Once these are at or near $0 you can begin the rebuild. I have (thankfully) never been in debt, but this is certainly where I would start if I was.
3) create a budget. A tight one, to the dollar. Mortgage? Phone? Car? Food? High level looking at the entire month, decide what you can spend and what you can save.
4) CONGRATS!!!! You are debt free. For whats it worth, I will consider phone bills and car payments for what they are, monthly expenses. Factor these into a budget. For some, this step might take 1 month or 10 years. Patience is key.
5) the first exciting part of this whole thing is quitting, the next is clearing of any debts, and now for the grand finale. You can now start to build wealth and add to your future. Depending on your financial security you can decide to add to your savings or opening an investing account (I use Fidelity). Investing in low risk ETFs will continue to gain and gain and gain.
6) if your company offers 401k and match, DO IT. I can’t stress this enough, it’s free money that you can’t touch. Over 3 years of working my 401k has absolutely ballooned. My company matches as well and I can’t withdraw, only add. It’s the perfect scenario for someone still learning how to control their financial future.
7) sit back and watch your money grow. Once you see gains in your investing accounts, you will become invested in learning about different ETFs that it will become a low risk way to “gamble”.
Hope this helps. Be patient. The damage is done and the recovery will take some time. Use your new time wisely, you’ll have a lot of it. As someone who constantly bet on sports, I’d sometimes spend 6-7 hours a day watching college basketball games I normally wouldn’t care about or sweating doing research on how to make back the money I lost. Spend this time to learn new things, pick up a new hobby, and apply to new jobs/opportunities to advance your career and increase your salary.
Most of all, be excited. Be excited about a life without lying to loved ones, chasing loses, owing people or institutions money. Be excited for a life of stability, even if it takes years to arrive at that point. Don’t let the past you define your future. It is never too late to recover. There will be a point where you’ve made so much progress you think you can go back as a changed person. You can’t. Use whatever you can to remind yourself.
One thing I want to add. The most difficult part for me is dealing with the constant regret of losing money. My parents certainly think I’m better off than I am and my bank account could look far better. What helps me is thinking about how fast time flies and how fast you can rebuild if you set your mind to it. Another thing is not comparing myself to others. I always think about how far ahead my friends and classmates are, but in reality everyone deals with different vices. I’m not big into buying material things or smoking, but many people do. These cost money. A lot of it. You really don’t know what other things people are dealing with. I look at gambling as an investment gone wrong.

Choosing the Best Sportsbook

Sports betting is essentially the act of placing a wager on the overall result and predicting sports results. The likelihood of sports wagers varies widely by culture, with a majority of bets being placed on sporting events that are won by a certain margin. Sports betting can take place on a single event such as an NBA or NFL game, a Formula One race, or any other competitive sporting event. In many cases sports betting can also take place on non-competing teams and/or players in order to handicap the competition.
Gambling has long been regarded as an acceptable form of gambling by many people, including many law makers. Gambling comes under the heading of sports betting in the United States law because the US government recognizes that it can generate revenue for its citizens through regulation of sports betting. Many states in the US have legalized sports betting, although they generally do not include online gambling, lottery bets, or other non-regulated forms of sports betting. Internet gambling is illegal in most states, but Las Vegas is the only city that openly promotes sports betting by allowing online bookmakers to participate in the LVAC Sportsbook Select program, which is used by hundreds of bookies across the country. The US State Department does not recognize online gambling, however, and individuals caught participating in this activity can face serious criminal charges.
In Las Vegas, a sportsbook allows customers to place bets on a variety of different sporting events, including basketball, football, baseball, tennis, golf, swimming, horse racing, and skating. The odds at which these wagers are placed are based on the sportsbooks' understanding of each sporting event and the probability of that event occurring. In order to place a successful bet, the gambler must be able to understand the odds on the game or event. The odds at which a bet is placed may vary significantly from bookmaker to bookmaker. In order to place a profitable bet, the gambler must use all available information, including the odds, to make his or her best bet.
With so many sports betting options available today, bookmakers have made it possible for bettors to enjoy their favorite recreational activities while still earning money. There are literally thousands of sites on the Internet where bookmakers allow bettors to place sports bets. Many of the sites feature daily, weekly, and even monthly payouts. The terms and conditions for placing sports wagers on such sites vary, but most include the following basic information: the name of the bettor, his or her credit card or e-mail account information, the wager amount, the date and time of the game, whether the game will be played in an online casino or on a television set, and whether or not the game will be played in more than one game. In addition, bettors must read carefully over the terms and conditions and follow all instructions provided.
Some online sports betting websites offer betting programs that include a variety of different games, including college football, baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis, and NASCAR racing. These programs also typically include a schedule of games for the different sports involved. Most bettors must register at the website in order to place a bet. Others must join a VIP program, which allows them to place larger sports bets that would not be eligible under regular rules.
Online sportsbooks also allow bettors to look up current news and odds for sports events within their books. This information allows them to place bets based on news and odds. The best sportsbooks can offer a wide range of information and provide updates on game scores and odds for millions of sports events. Before making a bet, it is important to find out if the website and the bookmaker have good customer service, because in the end, it is you who will have to keep track of your winnings or losses. And most importantly, do not forget to check if the site and the sportsbook can actually produce the numbers you're looking for; that way, you won't get stuck paying too much for sports betting odds.

TL;DR Lore: The Races of Runeterra

Hey everyone!
This tl;dr will be discussing the various sapient peoples of Runeterra. There’s a fair few of them, so let’s get in to it!
Before we begin, I want to clarify what specifically I mean by “races”. The races I’ll be talking about are effectively different species of organisms, all sapient, with their own cultures and societies, sometimes intermingling with one another. For this reason the thread will be split in to 3 parts:
The Mortal Races
Humans
Champion and NPC Representation
Appearing on every continent and in every nation of the known world with the exception of Bandle City, humans comprise around 2/3rds of all champions and almost all of the important NPCs. Something to remember is that most of the Iceborn, Ascended, Darkin and undead characters we know of are/were humans. Here’s the champion rundown:
Aatrox, Akali, Annie, Aphelios, Ashe, Azir, Brand, Braum, Caitlyn, Camille, Cassiopia, Darius, Diana, Dr. Mundo, Draven, Ekko, Elise, Ezreal, Fiora, Gangplank, Garen, Gragas, Graves, Hecarim, Illaoi, Irelia, Ivern, Jarvan IV, Jayce, Jhin, Jinx, Kai’Sa, Kalista, Karma, Karthus, Kassadin, Katarina, Kayle, Kayn, LeBlanc, Lee Sin, Leona, Lissandra, Lucian, Lux, Malzahar, Master Yi, Miss Fortune, Mordekaiser, Morgana, Nasus, Nautilus, Nidalee, Nunu, Olaf, Orianna, Pantheon, Pyke, Qiyana, Quinn, Renekton, Riven, Ryze, Sejuani, Senna, Sett, Shen, Singed, Sivir, Sona, Swain, Sylas, Syndra, Taliyah, Talon, Taric, Thresh, Tryndamere, Twisted Fate, Udyr, Urgot, Varus, Vayne, Vi, Viktor, Vladimir, Warwick, Xerath, Xin Zhao, Yasuo, Yorick, Zed, Zilean, Zoe.
That’s your human roster.
History and Range
Humans have an extensive history on Runeterra, however there is very little human history to actually discuss, due to how prolific they are as a species. There is no set origin for humans, and no history that specifically affected only humans.
Almost all of the known world’s history involves humans in some regard, and all currently known nations on Runeterra include human populations, and in most cases seem to have been founded primarily by humans.
The only areas humans are not known to inhabit are some islands, such as the one the Oovi-kat tribe of vastaya lived on, and Bandle City, which is mostly inaccessible to humans cuz it’s in another dimension.
Magic
Humans vary in their magical proficiency. Some humans are totally magicless, but can learn it. The Axiomata of Ixtal is an example of a human-made system to explain, study and educate people in magic for practical use.
Some humans are born with magic, and though the exact logistics are unknown, in some cases this magic is shown to be biologically inherited, such as with Iceborn humans. Examples of humans born with magic include Lux, Taliyah and Jhin.
In some cases both inheritance and education come in to play, as seen with Qiyana who was both born with prodigious talent for elemental magic along with her nine sisters, and then learned the principles of the Axiomata through her life.
Trolls
Champion and NPC Representation
Currently there is only one troll in the champion roster: Trundle, a Freljordian troll who is both an Iceborn and self-made king of the trolls. Trundle is noted as being particularly clever and cunning among trolls, as most are simple dullards. This by no means Trundle himself is exceptionally smart, but that he is smart enough to achieve his goals.
There have been a handful of named troll npcs in the lore. They are as follows:
*Grubgrack: An ancient troll king known for tricking Ornn in the days of the Vorrijaard. *Sligu: A troll who Trundle met in the story ‘A Feast Fit for a King’ who helped him out. *Sligu: A northern troll who Trundle met in the story ‘A Feast fit for a King’. Sligu is the brother of the above Sligu, is bigger, but dumber. *Yettu: A troll who proclaimed himself to be a king, who Trundle then tricked in to killing himself.
History and Range
Trollkind are noted as having a hardy constitution and incredible regenerative abilities, and as such have mostly come to inhabit incredibly hostile environments in Runeterra, ones that would likely be next to impossible for humans to live in. While the exact extent of this is unknown, we currently know that the largest troll tribes known to the world are found in the Freljord, which has a sizable population of them, and some trolls are also known to inhabit The Great Sai in Shurima.
The origin of trolls as a species is unknown, though in the Freljord ancient myths they were described as having kings, and as such potentially had nations of their own. The kings joined forces with Avarosa and Serylda during the end of the War of the Three Sisters, but the resulting clash and Lissandra’s actions led to the deaths of thousands, and likely the collapse of these theoretical ancient troll kingdoms.
In the modern era, trolls are organized in tribes, but Trundle is now going around rallying them under his banner as troll king, though they’re not totally unified at present.
Magic
Trollkind has shown very little in the way of magical abilities, however recently Trundle was revealed to be an Iceborn, meaning that he is innately magical, capable of wielding True Ice and having more resistance to the cold. Trolls themselves already have hardy constitutions, so how many trolls are actually Iceborn is currently unknown, but presumably more will come to light with time.
The above indicates strongly that trolls have the potential to learn or inherit other magical abilities, though we haven’t seen that happen yet.
Minotaurs
Champion and NPC Representation
There is currently one minotaur among the champion roster: Alistar, a former Noxian slave who now spreads messages of hope and resistance against those within the Noxian Empire, who are disenfranchised in some regard by their current situation.
Only one minotaur NPC exists in canon lore: Zalt, who was a Noxian soldier before his untimely death during the story “The Winterspike Road”, where he served under Darius while fighting against the Winter’s Claw.
History and Range
Minotaurs are as you’d expect of a race named after the original creature of greek myth; a race of humanoid bovines. Beyond this there isn’t much to note about them specifically; what you see is what you get, though notably minotaurs seemingly have vast variation in body sizes; Alistar is huge but most minotaurs aren’t depicted that way.
The origins and history of the minotaurs are unknown, but we do know they live across Valoran, and have shown up mostly in relation to Noxus. Numerous minotaurs have thrown their lot in with Noxus for various reasons, in some cases to escape enslavement, in others because they simply wanted to join Noxus over remaining in the current lives. Other minotaurs, like Alistar, were enslaved by Noxus though, so it’s a bit iffy all things considered.
Minotaurs have also been shown in Demacia. They have notably been depicted as members of the Dauntless Vanguard; one of Demacia’s most elite military forces, indicating minotaurs have it good over there.
In Piltover, minotaurs have not been seen, but their imagery is still invoked. In one instance a mechanical minotaur was seen, as was a fellow named Bakkens who donned a helmet styled after a minotaur’s head that could shoot hot steam out of its horns. If I was a minotaur I dunno whether this’d be insulting or charming.
Maybe both?
Magic
At present, minotaurs and magic have never been discussed in the same sentence. It’s not unreasonable to assume they could use magic, and we just haven’t seen it, but at the moment we just don’t know.
The Not-So-Mortal Races
Vastaya
Champion and NPC Representation
Vastaya are the second most represented non-human race in League with 7 champions, only trailing after yordles who have 13. Ahri, Xayah, Rakan, Wukong, Nami, Rengar and Neeko represent 6 tribes, 5 of them named between them.
There aren’t a great deal of named vastayan npcs, but we’ll go over a few notable ones:
History and Range (And Magic)
I’m condensing this section because, incase you all weren’t aware, I actually already covered this topic in much greater detail in my TL;DR vastaya post, so I’ll link that here.
https://www.reddit.com/leagueoflegends/comments/fcj0vk/tldr_lore_the_vastaya/
I’m not gonna leave too much in the dark though, so here’s a quick run down of vastayan history, range and magic:
The vastaya are the only Runeterran race with a clear cut origin. They are descendents of the legendary Vastayashai’rei; a group of formerly mortal heroes who, using the knowledge of their ancestors, learned to draw forth power from the Spirit Realm, becoming deathless shape-changers able to draw magic from both realms in equal measure. This was 10,000 years ago, and they did so to defeat a race of titans that came from beyond the sky.
The Vastayashai’rei won, and then went to live among their mortal kin. Their magic was inherited by their progeny, who went by the name vastaya. Over time the Vastayashai’rei’s power waned and the vastaya went their own way, forming tribes named after individual Vastayashai’rei and finding passage across the world. While most vastaya live in Ionia, tribes have been shown in Ixtal, the Freljord, in the oceans and on various islands.
In more recent history, something has changed in the magic of the world, making it impossible for vastaya to procreate. The exact reason why is unknown, and it’s also unknown how far reaching this is, but it also means that, given there haven’t been any new vastaya born in several mortal generations, that all our vastayan champions are at least a century or two old. This is also part of the reason why I didn’t include them in the “mortal races” section; vastaya live far longer, age slower, and it’s unclear if they can even die of old age as mortals do. They aren’t true immortals of course, but they definitely aren’t mortal.
In Ionia, various groups have shown hostility to the vastaya in recent times; an eventual inevitability given the growing tensions between the two races over the centuries. In some cases, like Zed and the Order of Shadow, this is not just hostility but full on discrimination, hate crimes, and effectively genocide on their part. Many vastaya aren’t taking this lying down, in some cases they actually defected to Noxus, while others like Xayah and Rakan have taken the fight to their oppressors directly.
Vastaya have access to various forms of spirit magic, including charms, camouflage, and also shapeshifting. This shapeshifting is possible for all vastaya in varying degrees, and allows them to look more human or more animalistic, but it’s capabilities are limited compared to their ancient ancestors. The diluted vastayan bloodline is to blame here, and so in cases where the vastaya are very close to their ancestry, like the Oovi-kat, this magic is much stronger. This might also extend to all forms of magic the vastaya can wield, but this isn’t 100% clear at present.
Yeti
Champion and NPC Representation
The yeti are represented in League of Legends by only one champion: Willump, who is the more handsome half of Nunu & Willump. Willump is the last magical yeti known to exist in the world, and is currently helping Nunu find his missing mother. We’ll talk more about Willump below.
Currently there are no named yeti NPCs, even among the Legends of Runeterra cards. There’s a reason for this that we’ll get in to shortly.
History and Range
The yeti originate from the Freljord, and had a vast civilization in the days when it was known as the Vorrijaard. They were ancient even back then with their own culture and beliefs, having a language of their own that Willump still speaks, and at one point they were sought out by the Three Sisters. Willump specifically met them, though what they discussed is unknown.
The yeti civilization met its end during the War of the Three Sisters. Lissandra had called on the yeti’s aid for the final battle, and when the Watchers revealed themselves, Lissandra made a tremendous sacrifice; the lives of the many thousands present, to seal them inside. Part of that sacrifice was the yeti themselves, but she didn’t take their lives, she took their magic. Since the yeti were beings of magic this stripped them of their former nobility, reducing them to savage monsters.
Only one yeti survived with his magic; Willump, and he quickly left the area, settling at a place that would become known as the Yeti’s Vigil. There he stayed with the last remnants of the yeti civilization’s magic. When folks came to take it, Willump met them with tooth and claw, becoming monstrous in the process.
In the modern era, yeti are considered myths by the wider culture of the Freljord, but do still exist as beasts in the wilderness. Very recently, Willump was found by Nunu, who managed to reach him and become his friend, and now the two are out trying to find Nunu’s missing mother Layka (God I hope she’s still alive plz Riot don’t kill off the mums).
Magic
The yeti were one of the only beings known to be able to create True Ice, a power that now, only Willump, Nunu (thanks to the magic Willump gave him), and Anivia are known to possess. True Ice is an incredibly potent magical substance that will brutally wound or straight up kill anyone who isn’t Iceborn, but given the yeti could make it, the assumption is True Ice had no or little affect on them.
The yeti, as beings of magic, were also shaped by perception, as spirit magic is the magic of souls, sensations and emotions. Because of this, Willump looks as adorable as he does because he’s being shaped by Nunu’s perceptions of him: being his best friend. Before this, it’s likely Willump looked more like the yeti we see in Legends of Runeterra. Those yeti are magicless, so it’s unclear if their forms are still shaped by perception, or whether their current forms are the result of being without magic.
The reason I wasn’t including the yeti in the “mortal races” is because there’s currently no information on the yeti’s mortality. Willump is over 9,000 years old, but looks to be as active and spry as he likely was in his youth, and it’s unclear if yeti can even die of old age.
Brackern
Champion and NPC Representation
Currently the brackern are represented in game by a single champion: Skarner. There are currently no NPC brackern detailed in the lore as characters, however we have seen multiple brackern crystals in the lore, and within them are the souls of brackern. Several champions utilize brackern crystals in some manner:
History and Range
The brackern are native to a hidden valley in north western Shurima. Living for incredibly long periods of time, the cornerstone of the brackern’s civilization were their “Namestones”, sometimes referred to as “Lifestones” or to ignorant, bastard pitlovans: hex-crystals.This is also the whole deal as to why they aren’t in the “mortal races” section.
By fusing the crystals with their bodies, they would effectively merge with the brackern’s souls. This created a union between their minds in the form of a song, allowing them all to communicate with each other via thought. When a brackern died their crystal would be taken and buried, later calling to a new brackern to inherit it, and with it, the legacy and power of all who had came before, effectively making the brackern immortal from some perspectives.
When the mortal races began building their civilizations in Shurima, they offered the brackern respect, but they also feared them. The mortals called their home “The Crystal Scar”, and the brackern, not wanting to be threatened by mortal wars, opted to hibernate for millennia, with the hope that they would sleep through the mortal’s eventual extinction.
This didn’t last though as Piltovans discovered the brackern, and bombed them in their sleep. Their intent was clear; to steal the crystals within them to use for their own ends. This act traumatized their collective psyche and resulted in several brackern’s deaths, with only Skarner being able to rouse himself and repel the invaders. Since then, Skarner has set out to reclaim the stolen crystals and save his race.
Those crystals that made their way back to Piltover then became the foundation of hextech. True “hexcrystals” as they’re known are few and far between, and as such highly coveted.
Magic
The brackern’s magic is tied to the Material Realm, and as such is mostly elemental in nature. They can draw power from the earth and of course their own crystals, with the power depending on the strength of their own crystal. Skarner in some iterations of the lore was described as being among the most powerful brackern, in no small part due to his crystal.
As detailed above, the crystals allowed the brackern to communicate with each other by what is effectively telepathy. It took the form of a song, and extended to all who also bore crystals. Notably, this form of communication was incompatible with humans, as in the story “Dreamsong”, Skarner tries to sing to the humans through his crystal, but they are completely unresponsive.
The elemental magic inherent to the crystals, and by extension the brackern, is also showcased in hextech. Blitzcrank has magical lightning, Orianna’s ball is full of magic, Camille and Jayce both have electrical powers, while Ekko figured out how to use time magic through the shard he has.
Yordles
Champion and NPC Representation
In League of Legends there are thirteen yordles, three of which are also in Legends of Runeterra. They are of course Corki, Fizz, Gnar, Heimerdinger, Kennen, Kled, Lulu, Poppy, Rumble, Teemo, Tristana, Veigar and Ziggs.
There are very few canon and named yordle NPCs. Infact, I think you can count them on one hand.
...Ok bear with me on this.
Now, as some of you may have guessed from the above, there’s an unfortunate truth about yordles, and that’s that they’re probably the least explored and least understood part of the entire League of Legends universe at present.
We know nothing of the yordle’s origins, what their true deal is, what their home of Bandle City actually is, and five of the thirteen yordles in game don’t even have biographies. It’s a rather sad state of affairs.
What do we know? Let’s do a quick run down:
If you’re wondering about why yordle glamour hasn’t really shown up in a bunch of places, it’s basically because it’s really awkward to explain in stories where it’s not relevant. As an example, in the Piltovan Tales of Runeterra, we see Heimerdinger in his full yordle glory. In cases like this, actively explaining glamour would take longer than the short itself, so it’s not detailed. In cases like this, the assumption should generally be that, unless otherwise stated, a yordle has their glamour on, and no one sees anything differently.
The above though will vary from case to case, mostly Kennen, who is well known as a yordle among the Kinkou. This, plus yordles being respected in Ionia, means it’s likely no one in Ionia sees him in glamour.
...I know it’s kinda weird and awkward, but sadly, that’s just about all of yordle lore at present. I wish I could explain yordles and Bandle City better, but alas, there’s just very little to go on at present. Hopefully, when I get around to making a Bandle City tl;dr, we’ll have a lot more to discuss.
Other Racial Discussion Points
Now that we’ve discussed the main seven races that we see in League of Legends, it’s time to discuss some other points of discussion in regards to the races, since those seven aren’t the end all be all. This section isn’t specifically about talking about races though, but also what isn’t a race, because, while this might not be surprising, some of the groups of beings we know of don’t really constitute a “race”.
Ascended, Darkin, Ursine and Iceborn
So this is where I basically put on my “These aren’t races” cap to tell ya’ll that these things don’t really constitute “races”, for varying reasons.
The Ascended and Darkin
These guys were mortals elevated by the Sun Disc to become gods among mortals. At present, there’s no indication as to whether all of the Ascended and Darkin were all humans, if anything that's unlikely, but we currently in the dark as to most of their racial origins; we know Azir was human and that's kinda it. Following the empire’s fall they warred amongst each other for 1,500 years until the intervention of the Aspects. Not all of the Ascended became Darkin, but it was enough that they’re basically near extinct nowadays.
There was also a group called the Baccai. These were folks who survived a failed ritual, coming out deformed. The Shurimans considered it a mercy to kill the Baccai off, and to our knowledge there are no known Baccai champions or NPCs in the lore, though some Rioters have described Xerath as potentially fitting the bill.
These guys don’t constitute a race because they themselves weren’t really their own a sapient species; they were effectively Shuriman super heroes. Also given the fact that an “Ascended Bloodline” exists, it’s likely that if the Ascended and Darkin could reproduce, they wouldn’t produce more of their kind, but instead mortal children with some magic inherited from their godly forebears.
The Ursine
The Ursine are a Freljordian tribe of Spirit Walkers; mortals (thus far only shown to be humans) with magic through which they channel the spirits of nature and animals through them, allowing them to shapeshift. This tribe specifically worships Volibear, and are more or less broken down in to three groups: those with their faculties, those who have gone bear full time, and those who’ve become monsters.
The thing to note here is that the Ursine are still humans when you get down to it, and not all Spirit Walkers are Ursine. As such they’re not a distinct race.
The Iceborn
While for a long time Iceborn was a thing we thought was exclusive to humans, recently revelations have revealed that trolls can be Iceborn. This is kinda huge because originally it was implied that an Iceborn was like a sort of magical ethnicity among humans, but this clearly isn’t the case anymore. There is also the factor that in some myths, the Iceborn were actually created by the Watchers, which further complicates the matter.
The variance in information we have about the Iceborn, as well as them now being expanded such that non-humans can also be Iceborn, leaves a lot of questions, and as such I don’t feel we can comfortably say the Iceborn are a “race” currently.
Jax’s Race
Jax is the sole representative of a non-human race we know precious little about, not even a name. Because of this we have to extrapolate from Jax, so let’s cover some bases.
Given what we know of Jax from his bio and stories, we can say comfortably that if his people are like him, they have similar physiology and lifespans, being noted as a long-lived race, and they lived in Shurima. Beyond this? We don’t know a lot.
Some people extrapolate that Jax is a troll. I don’t agree at present, mostly because the trolls from the Freljord are WAY bigger than humans, while Jax is depicted as being at most, tall by human standards, and his identity as a non-human was more fully discussed after we learned that trolls exist in Shurima, which feels like a weird thing not to commit to if it’s true.
Sion’s Race
While many people (myself included), have believed that Sion is human, that’s potentially not the case. In some discussions with Rioters heavily involved in the narrative process, they discussed how Sion is likely not human, and instead part of a race of large humanoids.
https://twitter.com/LaurieGoulding/status/1217108237620629505
Take a look in here for more info
To provide some context on what was happening in that discussion, it was about some of the Legends of Runeterra cards for Noxus released at the time, namely Kato the Arm and Captain Farron. Both are showcased to be far larger than other humans in the LoR material, but in the context of this discussion, both cards would fall in to whatever race Sion represents.
Now this isn’t concrete. As with most things, information sourced from the writers on twitter is not 100% canon, and is instead more of the thoughts of the writers on the subject. Until such information finds it way to canon sources, it’s not truly canon, as is the case with many things in Legends of Runeterra. This was an interesting discussion though, and since it has at the very least the potential to be canon, I decided to add it here.
The details about what we know from Sion and the above LoR cards is that this race, providing they are a canon race, are far larger than humans, more comparable in size to trolls. Their history is unknown, though Sion is described as being part of a “Warrior culture that was part of Noxus since its founding”. If this describes his race then that would mean that this race was part of Noxus since the end of the Rune Wars, and as such can be showcased as being native to Valoran, though this might also simply describe the culture of wherever Sion came from, which could just as easily be its own nation and as such not be specifically tied to this mystery race.
For those wondering, if Sion is indeed part of a non-human race, Urgot and Mordekaiser would not also be. Both are humans, who are big because of chemtech augments and death magic respectively.
Fizz’s Dead Friends
As discussed above, Fizz is a yordle, but he has ties to an underwater civilization we haven’t seen anywhere outside of his bio. This is because this civilization was wiped out by the gigalodons; huge dragon-sharks brought to the city by warming seas. The gigalodons descended on the city, killing everyone there and reducing the city to rubble. Fizz couldn’t save a single soul.
This civilization was said to have members of some “noble race”, however this race hasn’t ever been named. The only underwater civilization we know of currently beyond this is the Marai vastaya tribe, which is still as active as ever, so the identity of this race is a total mystery to us. The best we can extrapolate is that they were likely adapted for life underwater permanently, as Fizz living among them made him change to suit an underwater lifestyle, but this isn’t saying much.
There were several new kinds of creatures unveiled among the denizens of the deep with the Bilgewater expansion for Legends of Runeterra, but none of these have been confirmed to be this noble race Fizz lived among. We’ll talk about those cards a little later though.
The Jaull-Fish
For those who don’t know, these are the fish who have Pyke as their undead puppet.
Connected to the Swimming City are the Jaull-Fish; enormous sea monsters reputed for having sacks in its mouth full of a blue, oily substance called sapphilite, which can be used in various “sorcerous distillations”. Because of this sapphilite is highly coveted and fetches a high price. The Jaull-Fish have been described as similar to whales, and the way they behave as detailed in Pyke’s lore implies they’re potentially sapient, and as such making the call on whether they’re a race or not is hard.
Balestriders
A recent addition to the lore, Balestriders are tall, icy ungulates of unknown origin and power. Dating back to the days of the Vorrijaard, a march of them was frozen by Anivia, while others were twisted and turned by the Three Sisters to use for their own purposes. Beyond this we know little though, and as such we can’t make a call on whether they’re a race or not.
Otherworldly Entities
Beyond the Material Realm, various other kinds of entities come to be, and can be hard to classify. As the League universe is composed of 4 different realms, we’ll batch all those other realms together for a bit to discuss their residents equally.
Celestial Entities
These are entities from the Celestial Realm. Due to a lack of information about the Celestial Realm, we don’t know if any “races” truly exist out there, or if the beings from the Celestial Realm are all unique entities. We do however have some clues.
Currently there are three champions from the Celestial Realm; Bard, Soraka and Aurelion Sol, along with the Aspects, but among them, Aurelion Sol is the only one we know of to be part of a larger group of entities that might constitute a species, and we know too little of them to make a call on whether they’re a race or not.
Spiritual Entities
While yordles showcase that races of spirits can exist, we currently don’t know of any other spirit races beyond them. We do have classifications for spiritual beings though, so let’s get in to them:
Spirit Gods
These are spirits born of mortal cultures in to the role of deities the culture worships. These guys definitely don’t constitute a race, as each one is born as their own unique entity.
The four champion Spirit Gods are Anivia, Janna, Ornn and Volibear. Other named Spirit Gods include the Clever Lynx, Iron Boar and Seal Sister.
In some interpretations of the lore, Kindred might be seen as a Spirit God, especially given the way they’re revered in the Freljord in the same capacity as their ancient demi-gods, but this isn’t 100% confirmed.
Nature Spirits
These are spirits that occur naturally, and given current information are more likely to be classified in to species, though we know of no true “races” of nature spirits at present.
There are two nature spirits represented in the champion roster, however only one of them: Maokai, is a champion. Maokai is described as a treant, though his lore identifies that he was born in to the world by himself, when the Blessed Isles first arose from the sea. Little information exists about what “treant” means in the context of the lore, so it’s hard to identify Maokai as being part of a species, let alone a race.
The other nature spirit is Skaarl, Kled’s mount, who is a Drakalops; a Noxian wind spirit, and way more of an animal than any kind of race.
Demons
These are spiritual beings born of excessive emotions and sensations, not just negative ones. At present, we know of no classification among demons, no demons that could constitute any kind of race, and all of the demon champions have disparate origins.
Evelynn was made by war, Tahm Kench by culture, Nocturne was manufactured and Fiddlesticks predates civilization itself. There is also Raum, the demon of secrets that Swain conquered to gain his magical powers. Little is known of Raum in any regard.
Fiddlesticks is perhaps the most interesting of the current demons logistically, but even considering the hypothetical, it’s difficult to ascribe Fiddlesticks as being part of a race.
Voidborn
Voidborn are easy to classify as not being a race as each is born entirely unique from the others, and they have no known form of society or civilization, likely because they’re here to destroy it not compete with it. Voidborn also aren’t actually of the Void, as it’s a realm of nothing. They’re made by the Void’s power for sure, but it’s likely none have ever been to the Void itself.
Humans in Disguise
Some of Runeterra’s menagerie of champions are actually humans despite appearances. The Darkin and Ascended are the most well known examples, but here’s a quick rundown of Runeterra’s “Humans in disguise”:
Raceless Champions
Some champions actually don’t belong to any known race, instead being entirely unique entities. This varies from champion to champion, and some champions are simply not detailed enough in their origins to make a call, but here’s a quick rundown either way:
Blitzcrank
An automaton who developed sapiance thanks to the brackern crystal inside them. As a manufactured entity who wasn’t built with their own free will, Blitzcrank is a champion who doesn’t qualify as being of a race.
Galio
Not part of a race because he’s a statue that came to life after eating too much magic. His origin’s actually pretty straight forward all things considered.
Zyra
Zyra is effectively the result of magical nuke radiation in a garden of carnivorous plants. She’s probably got one of the more unique origins in League, and doesn’t belong to any race.
Rammus
A creature of unknown origins. Some hypothesize he is a member of a near-extinct species, others say he’s a spirit, a demi-god, or one of the Ascended. Lack of information here puts Rammus in the raceless category, but future revelations might change this. My money’s on him being an Ascended.
Zac
Zac originates from the giant dumping ground of chemical runoff in Zaun known as the Sump. His origins make him a totally unique being, devoid of species or race.
Yuumi
She’s just a cat. A magic cat sure, but just a cat nonetheless.
Fuck cats. Dogs are superior.
Amumu
Amumu has been depicted as both a yordle and a human, but the actual truth is unknown, and he may not even be one of those options. As such, I count him as raceless.
Malphite
Malphite has a very specific origin, but the short form is that he’s the shard of a giant magical weaponized city that got destroyed while trying to fight the Void during Shurima’s war vs Icathia. Malphite’s shard grew with time to grant him sapience and agency, and he’s endured for centuries. His origin makes him a wholly unique entity, and not part of any race.
Shaco
One of the last champions needing an update to bring him in to the rebooted canon. His current short biography states he’s an enchanted marionette corrupted by dark magic, but who knows if that’ll stick.
Twitch
Sadly he’s got the same deal going on as Shaco. Presumably a sump-mutant, but who knows at this point. Get the rat boy some lore love Riot, please, thanks, please.
Legends of Runeterra makes my head hurt
Legends of Runeterra is both a huge boon and a huge nightmare lore wise.
For one, it’s all “potentially” canon, meaning that it’s hard to know how much Riot actually intends to make canon or not. Stuff has been steadily making its way over, but it’s still a pain.
Secondly, and more importantly, there’s a lot of new stuff that makes figuring out what’s a race and what’s not difficult. Some things are easy to extrapolate, such as Yuzari, Greenglade Defender and Citrus Courier being likely vastayans, while some are clear as day, such as Tarkaz being a troll, Ariok Glinthorn being a minotaur, and all the yordle cards. Others though are total pains my my arse.
Examples:
The above are the ones I can remember, and basically all of these cards might represent new races, or they might not. There’s little to go on right now.
This isn’t super important for you all, but just know, it makes me suffer.
I have nightmares about the Dreg Dredgers, not knowing what they are.
What are the Dreg Dredgers Riot?
WHAT ARE THEY
RIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT
And that should be everything! Running out of characters now so gotta wrap this up quick:
TL:DR:
Thank you for reading and I hope you have a great day!

Make really good money using matched betting - Profit Accumulator (7 days for £1)

So this is one of those things I saw posted all the time on here and shrugged it off as I assumed it was just gambling, but it isn't. It takes all the risk out of it and you can make really good money from sign up offers alone, at bookies and casinos. There's no tricks or catches involved either.
I've used Profit Accumulator myself (there are others, OddsMonkey, Team Profit etc), the benefit being a very active forum with up to date offers, reload offers, and guides.
There's also a host of tools after sign up offers from catching extra places at the races, a blackjack calculator, a great oddsmatching tool which links you straight to the bookmakers to use, as well as lots of training videos and guides. Once you've done the first few the rest are a doddle.
If you've got a slightly higher risk tolerance, it's worth doing the casino offers daily too - each post gives an Estimated Value of the offer so you can see what you can look to gain. For example there's an offer on at Virgin Bet right now - wager £100 and gain 100 free spins. Depending on the expected RTP (Return to Player) % you can expect to make nice money from this especially if you hit a bonus round.
If you want low risk, then you can stick to purely doing matched betting using sportsbooks. For the larger sign up offers you'll need more leverage, which you'll get as you build up your money from doing the simple sign up offers.
Then there are reload offers. This is my main thing I do now before working from home every morning, takes 30 minutes to go through the forum find the best new offers posted and do them to earn an extra few hundred or so on average every month.
I'll only post my link for Profit Accumulator as I can really vouch for this if anyone wants to try it. They have a trial offer for £1 currently. You'll make back the £1 and then some in no time, i'm paying for the platinum membership as it's still well worth it after sign up.
Would be good to see what others do with matched betting and casino offers now, what your experiences are, and what the other sites are like. For now though here's the links to Profit Accumulator:

[Marathon Running] The 1904 Olympics and the Dumbest Race Ever Run (feat. cheating, rat poison, feral dogs, multiple near-fatalities, and one competitor running in a beret and slacks)

A few points before I begin:
The year is 1904, and in St Louis, the third modern Summer Olympic games are gearing up to start. Men in boaters and ladies in gowns are filling the bleachers to watch what will become the world's greatest sporting competition. At an event as important as the Olympics, the budget is a blank cheque. Only the finest professionals are hired to organise every aspect of the competition, guaranteeing a polished showcase of the best sporting talent the world has to offer. Truly, the Olympics is the ideal of a well-organised competition.
..yeah, no.
The 1904 Olympic marathon is widely remembered as the worst marathon in history. A series of organisational failures created a truly bizarre race where everything you can think of - and some things you can't - went wrong. To set the stage, the marathon had 32 competitors. The temperature was 90F/32C. The track began and ended in the stadium, but the majority of the distance took place on dirt roads, with officials in cars bookending the runners.
Fewer than half of the competitors reached the finish line, and several nearly died trying. Here's what went wrong:

Giving Runners Rat Poison and Brandy Instead of Water (For The Power Of Science!)

In the early 20th century, one popular scientific theory argued that water actually reduced athletic performance rather than enhancing it, and that inducing "purposeful dehydration" would bring about superior results. Unluckily for the hapless athletes, James Sullivan, the chief organiser of the Olympics at the time, was a strong proponent of this theory. He insisted that there only be a single water station on the entire 26 mile/42km course. HydroHomies would be furious. The obvious ill effects of this decision were exacerbated by sweltering temperatures and the incredibly dusty conditions of the race, as runners were forced to remain inside the dust clouds kicked up by the officials' vehicles.
The runner coming in second place, American Thomas Hicks, collapsed from dehydration 17 miles/28km into the race. Unfortunately for Hicks, his personal trainers were also fans of purposeful dehydration. Instead of hydrating the extremely dehydrated runner (a radical idea!) they instead provided him with a cocktail made of... *checks notes* rat poison. Specifically, rat poison mixed with egg whites and brandy. Our boy needs his protein and liquid courage, after all. In fact, the only water these trainers allowed poor Hicks was a quick sponge bath, before which the sponges were carefully heated up by the cars' radiator.
Surprisingly, the rat poison proved effective. Hicks was able to continue running until the 20 mile/32km mark, at which point he collapsed a second time and could not be reinvigorated by the World's Best Running Juice™. This time around, his trainers had help (read: carry) him over the finish line, which at the time was not a disqualifying offence. By the end of the race, Hicks was hallucinating and incoherent. He was immediately treated by several doctors, who stated that he would likely have died if he had not received prompt medical attention. Hicks lost 8lb/3kg over the course of the race, but luckily made a full recovery.

The Legend of Felix Carbajal de Soto, Madlad Extraordinaire

With a name like that, is it any wonder that Felix Carbajal de Soto is one of the maddest lads in Olympic history? A Cuban postman, de Soto relied on funds raised by his community to afford to travel to St Louis. This would have worked out fine if he hadn't lost it all on a gambling bender in New Orleans. Out of cash and nearly out of time, de Soto had to frantically hitchhike to St Louis in time for the starting gun. Indeed, de Soto was so time-poor (and just flat-out poor) that he showed up having not eaten in 40 hours... and still wearing his formal slacks and a beret. A sympathetic bystander with a pair of scissors helped him convert the slacks into shorts just before the race began. He kept the beret.
Since de Soto had no personal trainers to provide him with the food he so desperately needed, he instead snuck into an orchard partway through the race and stole some apples. Unluckily for him, the apples were rotten. De Soto quickly began suffering from severe stomach cramps, so he took a quick nap in the shade to sleep it off. Despite quite literally taking a nap partway through the race, de Soto somehow finished fourth overall.
(After his stunning performance in the 1904 Games, Greece sponsored de Soto to travel to Athens and compete in a marathon in 1906. He didn't show up. De Soto was presumed dead, and his obituary was published in the newspapers. A year later, he arrived back in Cuba on a Spanish steamship, surprised everyone with his non-death, and continued his running career like nothing had happened. I'm still not sure what exactly he was doing while presumed dead, but I can only assume it was wild.)

The Guy Who Nearly Died on the Road (or; dust is scarier than you'd think)

Remember those constant dust clouds I mentioned? American runner William Garcia certainly does. While running, Garcia ingested so much dust that it quite literally ripped open his stomach lining. (Honestly, I was happier in my life before I found out that breathing in dust can rip open your stomach. Y'all had better appreciate my sacrifice.) He was discovered lying prone on the road and emergency surgery was quickly administered. Luckily, Garcia survived.
If you're thinking that after someone nearly died attempting to run this course, the officials would have called off the race to save the remaining runners, then you're wrong. The race continued.

Who Let The Dogs Out!?

Interestingly, this marathon boasted the first two black African competitors in Olympic history - Tswana tribesmen Len Tau and Jan Mashiani. Tau, in particular, was projected to perform extremely well in the marathon. However, he placed a paltry ninth. The reason has very little to do with incompetent bookies and very much to do with feral dogs, which chased the hapless Tau nearly a mile off course. The race officials either didn't notice one of their competitors fleeing for his life, or were unable to help. I'm still undecided on which option is worse.
Unfortunately, Len Tau wasn't given any kind of handicap bonus as compensation for his brush with nature. He had to accept ninth place and be happy about it. Frankly, finishing at all was a considerable achievement amidst the madness.

Some Good Old-Fashioned Cheating

Meanwhile, the spectators were ignorant of any berets, emergency surgery, wild dogs and rotten apples. They had simply been sitting in the bleachers for hours, waiting for a runner to reappear. Their patience was rewarded when the first-place runner returned to the stadium: an American named Fred Lorz. The crowd went wild. Lorz had his photo taken with Roosevelt's daughter. However, right before Lorz accepted the gold medal, a witness stepped up and publicly accused him of cheating.
According to the witness, like most runners on the disastrous track, Lorz had actually given up 9 miles/14km into the race. Exhausted and dehydrated, Lorz simply couldn't continue. His sympathetic trainer offered Lorz a ride back to the stadium in his car. As fate would have it, the car only managed to carry the pair a further 11 miles/17km along the course before breaking down. Lorz... saw his opportunity and he took it, I suppose. Now rested and re-hydrated, and far ahead of the other runners, he simply exited the vehicle and kept running.
Unsurprisingly, Lorz was disqualified from the race. So who won?
Our old friend, of course, Tom Hicks of the brandy and rat poison.

Consequences:

The 1904 marathon was so terrible that the event was very nearly removed from all future Olympics. Luckily for modern-day marathoners, the race retained its coveted Olympic slot. Brandy, rat poison and champagne continued to be favoured over water for a few more Olympics, but common sense eventually won the day. De Soto built a career off the race. A few runners nearly died. And now all organisers of future Olympic events can rest assured that, no matter how badly they mess up, they probably can't organise the worst Olympic event in history.

Fire Me? You’re All Losing Your Jobs.

My 2019 was wild. But with everything finally on the up and up, I feel I can tell this story here.

After uni (late 2018), I fell on rough times and was forced to move back to my home town. I tried to transfer my job to a branch in my area but failed, thus I needed to get a new job.
I settled for a 20 hour a week job at a bookies, with a second bar tending job in the evenings. The bookies is the target for my revenge, which was entirely accidental.
Involved are the following:
and,
\NAMES CHANGED AND/OR REDACTED])
I ended up working behind the counter as a customer service manager, basically a step up from a cashier. It’s fancy when seen on a CV but there’s nothing really to it. I took bets, chatted with customers, helped people with machines and (for the vast majority of my shift) sat around waiting for something to do. I got on well with my co-workers (or so I thought) and had no major issues.
It was 20 hours a week, about £1 more than minimum wage with a lot of overtime required of me and irregular shift patterns. Though I had no issue with the job, beyond how difficult it was to juggle the schedules of both of my jobs.
In February of 2019 (after working for the company for 6 months) I was invited to a Probation hearing. It cannot be emphasised enough that it was a Probation hearing in which I would have my performance reviewed and (as informed in training) was entitled to a pay rise at the end of it.
I arrived that morning to a Disciplinary Hearing where, without even a shred of evidence, I was accused of 11 different cash discrepancies dating back to early November of 2018 (shortly after I’d started) which all amounted to £271.36. All but one of which I’d never heard of before.
These had apparently been reported and logged by my manager (Shay) and my co-workers, despite no one saying a word to me at all. Not a whisper in the 5 months this had apparently been occurring.
I was told that it was unacceptable, a call was made to HR and I was terminated on the spot and forced to hand over my keys and to never set foot in the store again. To my protests I was told the decision could not be appealed and I would eventually receive written confirmation of my employments termination in the post.
I didn’t let myself slump around and feel sorry for myself, so (on the way home) I opened up Indeed and applied for a bunch of jobs and (before I arrived home) had an interview set up for the next week at what is my current place of work.
Now, I was FURIOUS. Fuming at having gone to what I thought should have been a normal probation meeting and having (effectively) been called a thief and been banned for life from a place I’d never go to anyway. But somehow, my parents were angrier and ordered me to let them know when they got into contact with me again.
Almost two weeks later I received an EMAIL from the companies HR which reiterated the accusations and stated (again) that I was terminated. My mum sat me down in her kitchen and walked me through a letter response that was two parts professional and three parts scathing. Ripping into them about their unprofessional conduct, their ludicrous claims, their lack of evidence, the holes in their story (because their were quite a few) and finally, the cherry on the cake...
The employment laws they’d broken.
Now I didn’t want much, just a nice reference. A promise that not a whisper of these accusations would turn up when my new job asked them for a reference (because, by then, I’d already been offered the job). I then attached the letter to an email to fire back at their HR department.
Then I added Janelle’s work email. Then her bosses email and finally, the holding company that owned the brand. Cause I wanted to make sure this was seen.
A bit of background, the bookies I worked for is a brand that is owned by an international company, their name (behind the scenes) is slapped on everything and they pretty much dictate everything we did. I’m not sure if holding company is the correct term, but I’ll stick to that for now.
Anyway, I sent this email with a fourty-eight hour window for a response. I received a reply the next day from the same email that my demands were being met. I smirked victoriously and moved on with my life, happy to wash my hands with the entire ordeal. However, I’d set off a chain reaction that I wouldn’t know about until three months later.
Three months on, I’d settled into my new job, a call centre position with double the hours and well over double the pay.
I’d gone through training and was settling into my new position when I see a new set of trainees settling in near my team. Among them was Gordan, one of my co-workes from the bookies.
I was stunned. Gordan had been at the bookies for six years when I joined. He was well liked, good at his job and a favourite of the managers. There was no way he’d been fired.
Though I didn’t really want to talk to him (as I was of the impression that he, Jorge and my manager had likely set me up) I did want to know what happened.
Luckily, on seeing me in the break room one shift, he sought me out and told me everything.
Apparently my email had been read by the higher ups in the holding company and had caused a lot of scrutiny to fall onto the bookies in our town (of which there were three in our area that Janelle was responsible for, two in my town and a third in a neighbouring one). Someone in HR passed a message down to the Area Manager (Janelle’s boss) claiming they wanted things investigated and they wanted results yesterday, causing him to drop everything and descend on our little town with the panic and aggression of a man who’s superiors were watching his every breath.
He went to Janelle wanting to know: why he hadn’t been made aware previously that I was apparently stealing money, why I had been given keys to the shop and shifts on my own when allegations of that nature were attributed to me AND why I hadn’t been put under investigation. Turns out, Janelle HAD in fact put in my ‘employee file’ that I was under investigation but had never actually gone through with any of the official procedures for monitoring and investigating me (shock horror). Thus she had fired me for the accused crime without looking into it at all, falsely claiming otherwise.
Thus, the Area Manager took the dates and amounts of the cash discrepancies, confirmed that they had been reported on those days (without my knowledge) in Shay’s own log book of the shops cash, and sent that information onto our security team to investigate.
Another little detail is that the CCTV for every shop in the brand is outsourced to a private security company who monitors each shop remotely and has access to all the camera’s and video. As was procedure, they looked into the dates mentioned to see if I’d been doing anything untoward. I know I wasn’t and nothing was ever said to me.
But they DID find something...
Turns out, money WAS going missing from the shop but (surprise surprise) it wasn’t me, but Jorge and Shay. They not only set me up (for reasons I will never know) but were also falsifying numbers and cash checks on the system to hide it. One thing Shay was caught doing was deliberately short changing customers by taking portions of their winnings without them even knowing it (bear in mind, a lot of our customers were elderly men and women).
Gordan claims that he once opened the shop (after I and Shay had closed the night before) and noticed a cash difference but had been told not to say anything to me as I was under investigation and it could compromise it. He did apologise and I let it go.
Needless to say, Jorge and Shay were fired.
But it doesn’t end there.
Our team was small, including me there were a total of four people working at the store. As they hadn’t been able to hire anyone to replace me, Jorge and Shay’s termination meant Gordan was the only employee at the busiest shop in our area. Even if they’d been able to get other colleagues from the two other shops to help out, it wouldn’t have been enough to keep the shop open and manage the amount of customers. So they closed the location down until they could get the staff to run it.
It was at that point that Gordan handed in his resignation and applied for his job at my work. Meaning they had no one.
On top of that, Gordan’s girlfriend worked in the same shop as Janelle and she relayed that she was rarely at their store (in the other town) for the next few weeks before the Area Manager reported she was fired as well. No reason given to her.
I was later issued an apology for everything by the Area Manager and informed she (Janelle) was no longer with the company in an email some time later.
But SOMEHOW, it doesn’t end there.
With the store I worked at closed (this one being on the high street and where most people preferred to go), the only other location in town was the MUCH smaller location in the suburbs. The one where Kara worked. ALONE.
She suddenly received an influx of customers into her tiny store space and absolutely no support from other staff or upper management. Thus, for her own mental health (having already been overworked and underpaid, running an entire store by herself) she quit, meaning that location had to be closed down too.
All of this at the worst possible time, March, when the Cheltenham Festival was occurring. Which is a HUGE money maker for the gambling industry, even in a small town like ours.
An opportunity the three other bookies on the high-street reaped the benefits of instead of my old place, as the former customers went to them instead.
As it currently stands, just over a year later, both shops remain closed and I’m currently entering a job in cyber-security, the training for which I paid for with my current job.
Thanks for firing me dumbasses, you did me a favour.
(TL/DR: I was fired for false claims of theft. I complained to the higher ups. The real culprits lost their jobs, every shop in town closed down and they lost out on a bunch of money and customers)
《▪︎》《▪︎》《▪︎》《▪︎》《▪︎》《▪︎》《▪︎》《▪︎》

UPDATE

This massively blew up, thanks for the support and everything x
Gordan and I got in touch with our old Area Manager and we were able to get a bit more information:
The security team rifled through about three years worth of footage after they found out about Jorge and Shay and have estimated that (in that period alone) they both stole nearly £4,000 through various means. The parent company also got involved and searched through years worth of their cash checks and till checks and noted plenty of irregularities.
The parent company persued criminal charges and the two were arrested but, as far as our Area Manager knows, the case is still ongoing. He thinks it's because they are still looking into how much they actually stole (as they've both been there a while, Jorge about 8 years and Shay 10 years). I doubt they'll have security footage of all that time, but I bet they're trying to get a more accurate figure to really nail them.
And in comes a new character: Tammy (obviously not her real name). She is an employee who was hired and fired shortly before I was, at the same store. She lasted just past her probation before she was fired, wait for it, for months worth of cash differences and false till checks she wasn't made aware of prior.
HOWEVER, her situation is FAR worse than mine. Tammy is in the process of suing the company for wrongful termination (alongside financial and emotional damages) as she was put under a lot of stress whilst in the job by Shay (who apparently left her to fend for herself and would refuse to step in when customers got aggressive) and then had a miscarriage shortly after her employment was terminated.
Our Area Manager doesn't know anything more, as it's escalated and gone way above his head and I doubt I'll be able to get any more information on it. But I doubt the company's doing too well on that front and I wish her the best.
Gordan and I are considering reaching out to some of the other fired employees (of which he can name a few who were terminated for similar reasons) to get their side of things. But it seems very clear that what Shay and Jorge were doing was going on for a long time and I was only the latest scapegoat.
Janelle, unfortunately, is perfectly fine as far as I'm aware. Her husband and her opened a taxi company several years ago and she seems to have just got more involved with that. I haven't seen her so I wouldn't know. But she was terminated for gross misconduct and for not following procedure, which is kinda what I expected.
And Kara, who our Area Manager actually really dislikes (but is lovely and did not deserve what she went through) is doing okay. I've messaged her and she and her partner recently bought a house. She also got a job as an Events Manager at a local historical site. She's happier there as she actually has people to talk to at work and isn't alone anymore.
(TL/DR: Jorge and Shay are being prosecuted after stealing thousands, a former employee is suing after going through the same thing as me (but worse), Janelle is fine and so is Kara.)
Thank you again for all the awards, updoots and support x

In-depth guide to Jinx/Draven Discard Aggro (Masters)

Introduction:
Hi guys, my name is Isick. I’ve been climbing in Masters this season and have been focusing on more meta decks. That said, I want to make an in-depth guide to Discard Aggro. This deck has a lot of play to it and there is a lot to talk about.
Deck Code: ((CEBAIAIDAMKCGJYIAECACHBGE4UC2NBXAEBACBAMBUAA))
CEBAIAIDAMKCGJYIAECACHBGE4UC2NBXAEBACBAMBUAA
Decks of Runeterra: https://decksofruneterra.com/decks/-hvzikO\_B
I’m a Master player in NA and peaked at 325 with this deck. In the 35 games I recorded I went 23 and 12 which is a 66% win rate. I don’t have time to enter tournaments or ladder as much as I like. I’m not able to make video content either as my computer won’t handle running the game, fraps, and audacity at the same time. So, instead I want to write guides so that others with more time can climb the ladder and win tournaments.
What is Discard Aggro:
Discard Aggro is an aggressive deck focused around Jinx and Draven. It utilizes PnZ discard cards to cheat on mana costs and to cycle through the deck quickly. But this deck doesn’t just swarm the board and attack. It also has the ability to gain card advantage and the ability to forgo the attack step altogether and pressure the enemy nexus with a leveled-up Jinx.
How to play:
There are three main modes of the deck that you should play towards. Here I will go through the advantages and disadvantages of each game plan. I will also reference these game plan when discussing matchups.
Aggressive:
This will be the most natural playstyle for the deck. Card advantage and caution are thrown to the wind as we aim to swarm the board and maximize face damage. This deck lacks aggressive two drops, so our ideal curve consists of three one drops in the first two rounds. Play a combination of your one drops and try to discard Jury Rig or Chompers to Zuanite Urchin. The most powerful part of this opening is playing a Vision through discard on an early wide board. It’s best to play vision on your attack token. Lastly a Draven on three and Jinx on four tend to be the best way to pressure your opponents. From there, hopefully you’ll have them low enough that you can burn them out. Draw aggressively for burn to finish the game.
While we’re here, lets talk about the new discard cards. They are insane tempo and they let you cheat on mana costs. Jury Rig puts you one mana ahead of your opponent. Chomper puts you two mana ahead. And Vision puts you three whole mana ahead. This mana cheating puts you miles ahead in the early game. So not only do you cheat on mana, but you are also gaining pseudo card advantage. You’re not gaining a card but you’re not losing a card either.
Jinx:
If the opponent isn’t dead by the time that we reach the midgame we transition to playing around Jinx. Jinx can be a win condition all on her own. So, it’s important to know how to play her and what risks she comes with.
Leveling Jinx requires you to discard your hand. This is usually done through using axes to discard cards for no value. If you discard your hand and Jinx dies you will be left empty handed with no payoff. This is the risk of Jinx. Now, lets talk about how to mitigate this risk. Rummage and Augmented Experimenter are good ways to empty your hand while still having some cards in your hand after she levels. This same principle applies to getting a rocket from her after she is leveled. To a lesser extent, Zuanite Urchin and Sump Dredger also fill this role.
So, when playing Jinx consider if she is likely to be killed. If she is, then discarding your hand likely won’t be worth it. It is up to you to gauge the best play.
Lastly I want to mention that there are some mistakes to avoid. Lets say that your Jinx is about to be killed. You want to empty your hand in response. You have 5 cards. One is a Rummage, another is Get Excited. You cannot empty your hand in this situation. If you play Get Excited and then play Rummage, Rummage will go off first while the card that Get Excited is wanting to discard will still be in your hand. Another mistake that I made is having two Bookies and a leveled Jinx in play with one card in hand. The first Bookie will discard one card then Jinx will make a rocket, then the second bookie will discard the rocket. Lastly, be aware that you cannot get a rocket from Jinx on the same turn she levels up. This is because of the way she is worded. It’s unfortunate and I hope that it is reworked in the future.
Value game:
Lastly there are hands and games where your early game aggression is not useful. And Jinx will simply get removed. But there is another alternative path to playing your mid game. This deck has a great value engine in Bookie and Draven. Bookie discards your lowest cost cards while Draven generates 0 cost axes. Discarding Axes to Urchin, Dredger, or Rummage also generate card advantage in a the same way.
So, in some games, when hyper aggression will just get you answered and outvalued, you can gain card advantage and play multiple waves of threats, while always keeping your hand full.
In a value game where you keep a steady stream of threats on board and cards in hand, it will be hard for you to level up Jinx or Draven. However always look for openings where you can level up either of them while not losing too many cards in the process. This can happen after they spend all their mana on removal or trying to establish a threat of their own. When leveled, either of these will generate more card advantage for you. And with how much card draw you have, playing their champion spells will help you not deck out as quickly.
It is important to understand that you do not have to devote to one game plan for the entire game. If you start aggressive and then decide you’re better off if you stop pressuring and start getting card advantage, that is fine. If you start off getting card advantage and then you can make a large board and swing, go for it. Always assess what your game plan should be given the matchup and situation and change your game plan accordingly.
TL;DR: You can mulligan for specific game plans depending on matchup. For aggression, try and find a curve of round one: one drop, round two: one drop one drop. And after this you should play a vision, preferably discarded from a Zuanite Urchin. For an Early Jinx you’ll want to line up a round three Draven, round four Jinx, and then line up discarding your hand down with axes so that rummage levels up Jinx or you cycle aggressively to find an Augmented Experimenter. To gain card advantage you will need Draven and ways to discard axes. Don’t feel locked into one game plan for the entire game. Change your game plan as you transition to your mid game at your own discretion.
Card Choices:
I will try to keep this section as brief as possible as this guide is already long enough. I’ll also end each description with the card being rated alright, good, or great.
Draven: round three threat, discard outlet, card advantage engine. There is a reason I’m running Draven’s Biggest Fan. Great Card
Jinx: Alternative win condition. Strong attacker. Great card.
Draven’s Biggest Fan: Good attacker, draws us a Draven. Good card.
Astute Academic: Good threat that enables some insane early pressure. Good card.
Jury Rig: Unassuming sleeper threat. An extra body to get an extra vision buff is invaluable. Good card
Rummage: Helps level Jinx and is a discard outlet. Rummaging Jury rig and Chompers is huge tempo. Great Card.
Zuanite Urchin. Enables degenerate early game pressure, especially when paired with Astute Academic. Great card.
Arena Bookie: Doesn’t help with early game aggression but is a great value engine. Great card.
Flame Chompers: Enables further pressure as it can pull away big blockers. Great card.
Mystic Shot: Burn to draw into. Great card
Get Excited: More burn. Enables discard. Though three mana can be cumbersome. Good Card.
Sump Dredger: I want to hate this card. I want to say it’s bad. But it just isn’t it’s a solid body. It enables discard. I just hate spending three mana in a turn on a low impact card like this. There probably is a better card for this slot, as Draven is our usual three drop of choice. But I don’t know what I would run instead. Alright card.
Vision: This card is messed up. Playing a three mana card for free is inherently broken, even if this particular card doesn’t feel game breaking. Great card.
Augmented Experimenter: The best way to level a Jinx. I only run two because you will draw enough cards by round six that you will be able to play him. Great card.
Matchups:
Ashe / Sejuani: Unfavored
This is a huge downfall of discard aggro. Ashe Sej is so hard to deal with. Early Yetis shutdown our aggression with Draven and Jinx and our Jinx dies to attack token Sejuani. A value game is out of the question because we can’t answer their board and gain card advantage. They keep up in tempo and out scale us. The only way to win is a good aggressive draw that doesn’t get answered. I’m talking about presenting 8+ damage and a round two or three discarded vision on a board of three to four units. Otherwise we lose.
Ezreal: Favored
Ezreal decks are usually slower decks with a combo finish. Though some flavors of Ezreal can apply some pressure. Generally, though Ezreal feels like a favorable matchup. You just need to play aggressive and finish them off with burn. They will usually Mystic Shot our Bookie and Jinx usually gets removed as well. So those game plans are usually out. However their removal isn’t infinite. Sometimes you can set up a Bookie Draven or leveled Jinx as you enter the mid to late game.
Deep: Unfavored
They stomp on our early game and they ruin our late game plan of drawing our deck, because Maokai deletes our deck. Hope that they can’t deal with our early game, or if you have to play late try and kill Maokai as quickly as possible.
Most of my other games were against various off meta builds. People kind of play whatever they want on ladder and the meta allows it. I found that against tier two and tier three decks you can usually beat them with your strong early game and card advantage. Generally if you think you can swarm the board and the opponent won’t have a good answer to it, you can spend what would be set up for your mid game on early game damage instead. Otherwise stick to the Draven Jinx plan and play toward a stronger midgame push. However, I was finding success against all these random decks that I played against. Any game played with this deck tends to feel winnable. This leads to the last thing I want to talk about.
Play to your outs:
This is a concept that I want to mention because it is so crucial to finding success with this deck. You have so many ways to draw cards that if there is a slim chance of winning by drawing a card, you can try to do it. There will be times when you can either play cards to contest the board, or you can draw aggressively for a card you will need to win. Sometimes, if you think you will lose the game by playing for board, you can draw instead to get the game winning card you need, which is usually a burn spell. Always play to your outs.
Conclusion:
This deck is a strong Aggro deck that has more to offer than an early board swarm. I think the unique mid game options of this deck makes it a strong choice that should hopefully stick around as the meta changes.
If nothing else, this deck is incredibly fun. What’s more fun than just cycling through your entire deck before round 10 and firing off one mana decimates? Not much.
Thank you all so much for reading my guide. If you have questions about Discard Aggro or suggestions for my next guide, leave a comment.
